Meanwhile up Copperhead Road.

HJ, that pic reminded me of a spot in Jackson, Co., locally famous for the cave and the moonshine that was produced in the area around it. During part of my mis-spent youth I've sat in front of that cave sippin shine on a hot July day and the breeze blowing from the cave was like sitting in front of an a/c vent. What you can't see is across the road from the cave was a friends home. He and his father had both done Federal time for making shine. I've included a story reflecting some of the history of the area.

I enjoyed the link on the death of Joseph Sanders & of the cave, BB. Sanders murder during the war reminds me of the unofficial Union policy of "Peace Bonds" in Missouri. Wealthy & typically older men who wished to stay neutral were allowed to post cash bonds with the Union army at Westport, MO stating they wished to remain neutral & would not take up arms against the federal government. Most were killed soon after doing so, including Henry Washington Younger (father of the Younger brothers) & George Washington Wells (father of Sammy Wells, aka Charlie Pitts of the James-Younger gang). Henry Younger was shot & killed on the Westport-Harrisonville Road on his way home after posting his Peace Bond. In every case the bond money disappeared.
