It appears that 30s newsboy caps were
roomier on top and the brim extended
more.

I found one on ebay, but most that are
offered the style is more trim.
It's the prominent brim that I like. The newer caps that bring the top down to the front of the brim look like a bicycle seat to me...

That 1850s-1860s cap is attractive to my eye as well.

Unidentified Man, California Gold Rush, circa 1850
I have a ggg-grandfather who left his family behind & headed for the goldfields of California in 1849, intending to send for them when he struck it rich. He died of disease as many miners did, before that happened. Whenever I see pics of such miners my curiosity is always peaked as to what he might have looked like; what he might have gone thru.
