Benito Juarez: National hero and president of Mexico (1861–72),
who for three years (1864–67) fought against foreign occupation
under the emperor Maximilian. The people of Mexico called Juarez,
the "Lincoln of Mexico” as an homage to Abraham Lincoln which
the people of Mexico revered.
The other honor goes to Emiliano Zapata who fought for the
poor peasants during the Mexican Revolution in the 1900s.

Pancho Villa...that’s a “horse of different colors” señor! ;)

Scary. They both look like men.
Opposite side of that coin, there are several true cases of feminine looking young men who frequently posed as women during the Civil War to work as spies. Confederate guerrilla Marcellus Jerome Clarke frequently posed as "Sue Mundy" to gather intel in towns controlled by the Union Army. Late in the war he was captured & executed as Sue Mundy.

I've posted some pics of Geronimo and his fellow Apache before, from their time at Mt. Vernon near Mobile, AL. I don't remember posting these but apologies if I have. They spent seven years there before being shipped to OK.

Looking back, some images have been removed due to the process in which they were posted,
like the “bucket” for example!
No apologies required.
I’m enjoying the images ...and they are worth repeating!
Thank you Bamaboots & the rest of the gang here on our lounge. :D

This is the best thread!
Am enjoying each and everyone whether it’s a photo , information
or just a comment, kidding or serious.
Thanks!
For a few yrs I was a volunteer on an area wide speakers bureau. One of the things I most enjoyed were the few times a descendent of someone in the subject matter would approach later to discuss their ancestor & family history, & ask questions. I maintain some contacts & friendships that were originally made in just that way.
