The Noble Schoble

I actually picked up this hat a couple of months ago, but this is my first time showing it off. And it comes with a story. Notice how so many of my acquisitions come with a story? Picked this up on the Bay for a decent price and was very happy, awaiting delivery. My second Homburg, a nice black one (my other is a brown Mallory), and my first Schoble. The eBay photos showed it in pretty darn good shape except for a wrinkled ribbon.

Delivery day! And for some reason, I was especially excited to get this one - probably because I'd heard so much about Schobles. So I eagerly open the box and pull out...

A stingy Champ Kasmir of some sort with a low crown and less than 2" brim. Pretty much the exact opposite of what I look for in a hat! Oh, and a vintage box of boys' handkerchiefs! Such a haul!

So I write the seller informing them of the mistake. Now get this - despite my protestations, the seller refunds me the $$ for the Hommie, ships it anyway, and requests that I spring for returning the other hat and hankies. The seller was generous beyond reason. So, this is my less than $10.00 Schoble Hommie.

A very clean example. Black with a very dark burgundy ribbon. Looks almost blue in some lights. The liner and sweat band are fairly pristine, and it fits great. The ribbon was loose and draping at some points, as if it had stretched or something. I drew some of the ribbon up under the bow and threw in a couple of stitches to tighten it up, and that seems to have worked.

Approx. 2 3/8" to the curl, 2 5/8" including the curl. It's a pretty wide one.

And ad an addendum, this is the first time I've worn it out, and after seeing it in the sun, it's definitely a deep blue, not black.

Really nice n bigger brim for a Hommie and of course the deep midnight blue is great too. I'm really liking blue cuz its a welcm change from the browns etc.
