The new gray Fed.

Here's the new and improved Gray Federation. After some consternation and a fair deal of work (go to C.O.W. to read about my disatrous attempt with the brown Akubra!), I think I am actually satisfied with it...for now...

The crown was kind of flared out near the bottom, making it look too narrow at the top. I managed to get rid of most of this and get it fairly well untapered by steaming and pushing the sides out with my hands. Normally, I'm a study in brown, but this looks OK on me, I think. Note my normal 2-day-unshaven countenance...

I can't help but admire the member's self-portraits-they seem to be pretty good, considering there are a few instances when the subject appears to be trying to flee the camera...shoulda seen my attempts-the hat was so lost over my mug...

Oh, and the Fed is darn nice as well. I have a new one on the way in "Tawny Fawn" - now if THAT doesn't soound like a stripper!

With those photos, the post should have read, "So yer gonna say yer like the lid, see, or yer gonna be dodgin' lead, get my drift yer two-bit palookas?" lol

It might have taken some work, but the Fed's crown looks mighty fine now. How tall is it? I really like the grey, I think even more than the brown.

The total finished crown height is right at 5". The Akubra "mid-brown" is a dark grayish brown color. It doesn't look bad, but don't look fantastic, either. The "Deluxe Federation" is made of softer felt, and is a much nicer brown color. Don't have one of those yet...
