The Monarch Knitting Company was founded in 1903 in Dunnville, Ontario. It incorporated on May 1, 1912, and had factories in Dunnville, ON, St. Catharines, ON, and St. Thomas, ON. It was the sole capital stockholder of the Buffalo, NY based Monarch Knitting Co. (source). They produced lines called "Bison-Knit" and "Monarch-Knit". The Buffalo Monarch Knitting Co. had losses of $400,000 in 1921 on assets only totaling $500,000, and closed by 1922.
The factory, at the corner of Doat St. and Genesee St. was sold to the Navy Knitting Mills for $350,000.

1919. The Buffalo Knitting Co. - World's Largest Manufacturers of Knitted Goods. Despite the difference in the name between the factory and the company, the other locations match those of the Canadian wing of Monarch.

Very interesting. I grew up on Nevada Ave. in Buffalo NY which was just across the street from Genesee and Doat St. That building (a large brick factory) just burned down about a month ago. It was an old German-Polish neighborhood back then, but now is a high crime area of Buffalo. Brings back some great memories!
