I did not think I would live long enough for anyone to say anything good about mid-20th century American commercial design. I'm not impressed.

You need to get out more. Saul Bass is HIGHLY regarded.

I'm a huge fan of "golden age" design, but I also love the abstract designs done by Mr. Bass and others in the 50's and 60's. Particularly Bass' work on movies. Also there is no denying the huge influence he had on the design of corporate America.
