I watched this one and really wanted it but it was not my size.


It wasn't just Stetson marketing a "plastic" hat. Missed this auction for a Mallory Plastic Felt. Listed as 25% vinyon, 75% wool. According to wiki, vinyon was invented in 1939. Many of the google books hits on vinyon are from the 40's.

Given the name, I'm not surprised it matches up with the Stetson Wanderer, my favorite factory model!

Such a great Hat My Dove Mallory 15 is in that level of shape also.
So day wish to get one of these myself in a 7 3/8. Now your hat buying is complete turn off the computer and put your hat on and walk away.;)

Are there one's made by Mallory alone or was this a model that Stetson added to the line?

Started within Mallory (pre-Stetson). I think first use on trademark was in the late 20's. I've seen 1930's ads where they used "Nokabout" to refer to the weight of the felt. There is a 1938 ad for the actual "Nokabout" model. So it started with Mallory and was carried forward with Stetson.
