With regard to the lack of serious clothing knowledge/interest/discussion here compared to the 'old days' I think that sometimes discussion is positively discouraged. I have been a member for a couple of years now, mostly lurking at first and making the odd post more recently. But I have read nearly everything in the forums that interest me - Suits and General Attire. Back to day one. It's a fascinating read, both for the wealth of knowledge on display and the sense of a group of people learning and growing together. I have seen people who I now consider to be experts asking the same newbie questions we all did and that we see regularly to this day. And I have read through the threads and seen those people educate each other and pool their knowledge.

The problem is that can only happen once. The 'family' has grown up together, some of them have flown the nest and some of them are still around, giving us all the benefits of that learning. But the discussions that lead to that learning are no longer encouraged. New people come along and ask a question and at best are answered with a list of links to old threads and at worst told to 'use the search facility'. This does not encourage discussion or community. Sure those topics have been discussed before but, I've got news for you - everything has been discussed before in these pages. But sometimes people don't want to come here to read old threads. They want to interact and learn through discussions that they can take part in.

I think this is a wonderful forum and I thank the members here for the wealth of knowledge that they have made available for the benefit of others. But my one suggestion is that if we want the Fedora Lounge to continue to be the thriving community that it once was we have to allow people to discuss subjects even if they have been discussed before. That way the newer members will be able learn first hand from those more experienced and can be helped by some of the 'middle experience' people and a new community of experts can develop. Otherwise we will become an archive and not a forum.

Just my two-penneth.

All the best
Anton
