Certainly wearing a tie and usually a suit everyday for nearly 30 years does wear thin though. It's not dressing up if you don the same clothes you wear for work.

So invite one other person that you know from dancing to join in the pre-dancing dinner....and its a start.

I have two people on board for this: my best guy friend (who is the guest of honor--it's his birthday) and my best friend. I know they'll both show up.

I'll invite a couple of other dancers and have dessert in the freezer in case they don't show up. I've leared to have a Plan B when I invite most people over.

I so understand ya'll. At my sister's wedding a couple of years ago there were a couple men in blue jeans.

I go to a pretty conservative church, so get to dress up a bit every Sunday. Thankfully I'm not alone. I think I've only see women in pants at church a few times in my entire life. It's sad, I was freinds with a woman who joined the church and felt so self-concious at first when she attended because she didn't even own a skirt of dress. I don't think I dress up too much, but most of my coworkers think I do. They actually asked me if I owned a pair of jeans back in January. I was addressing a group of the new college students and they wanted me to be more 'relate-able.' lol. Anyway, we do have to create occaision in our lives. My sister, of teh aforementioned wedding, is graduating in a couple of weeks and she planning on dressing up for it. That reminds me, I promised her I look for some white shoes up here in Dallas...

Growing up, I had the impression ingrained into my head that certain functions required certain dress, and that was back in the '80s. My mother would have killed me had I showed up in jeans or t-shirt to church, funeral, or a wedding. It still appalls me to see a guy show up in an oversized polo shirt and jeans, and consider that acceptable wear for such events. It seems sometimes that putting on a nice shirt, slacks, and a pair of non-tennis shoes is almost putting on the ritz...never mind going so far as to wear a suit (which I do)!

Funeral Respect

Yes, John in Covina, I too recently attended the funeral of a childhood friend, as did over a hundred others. Many gentlemen wore fedora style hats inc'l myself (though not hasidic fedoras), most in suits, as were most of the ladies from school age to alter kaker yentas. Everyone seemed steeped in the occasion of paying respect to the man's family.
