The Hardest Laugh You Ever Had

A long time ago, when I was getting started in middle school, I was at the school's so-called "computer lab", marveling at the that novel wonder called Internet ('twas novel to me, at least). As I peeked through various toy catalogues and assorted material of interest, I heard a couple of girlies giggling by a computer screen. Out of mere curiosity, I turned to look what all that squealing was about, and I saw... this!

I almost fell off my chair and 6 minutes later, I got kicked out of the room because of the noise!

So, what brought about the hardest, most gut- busting laugh you've ever had?

Not too far from it, a farside cartoon of a chicken, tied to a balloon, floating into a bar full of samurai, got me playing stop drop and roll for a good 5 minutes.

But the winner has to be the following:

I stopped at a vending machine for a can of soda. I put in my dollar bill and pressed the button for a Dr. Pepper. Nothing happened. Of course, I felt ripped off immediately. My dollar was eaten.

My frustration led to me kicking the machine. The motor awoke with the kick for one second before stopping again. Hopeful, I gave the machine another kick. 2 Dr. Peppers came out!

Just for kicks, and curious, I decided to kick the machine again. This time, something else came out of the machine. A red office stapler. It's been years and I still haven't gotten over that. I still use the stapler.

The hardest laugh I can remember having happened a few months back while in Italy with Hemingway Jones.
It's really hard to explain. But, he had taken a rather bad picture of me. My face was all wide eyed, and quite crazy looking. After a very long day, we were both very tired. Looking through the pics on his computer we came across my crazy face. He blew up the picture to fill the screen, then kept zooming in and out and scrolling up and down while shouting "I'm Insane" "I'm Insane". I realize this doesn't sound as funny now that it is written down. But, oh how we laughed until tears were streaming down my face and my tummy hurt. I guess you just had to be there to fully grasp how funny this was. I also realize it might not have been so funny if we weren't so utterly exhausted. I would post the picture, to show how crazy I looked, but it's really much too embarrassing.

Without hesitation I will say watching an old rerun of The Johnny Carson show with Rodney Dangerfield doing stand up.
I watched it with my mother and brother in the 80's and I laughed like there was no tomorrow!

A Buddy Hackett Concert

On HBO, when I was in college (like, a million years ago). I was sitting in the family room at home, watching the concert- absolutely filthy material- when my Mom came in and sat down and began watching with me. Neither of us would look at the other, and we wouldn't laugh. Didn't want to admit that, as a 20 year old, I found his foul material hilarious. My Mom, 40 something, didn't want to admit to her 20 year old son that she found it hilarious. We both ended up rolling on the floor, tears streaming from our eyes, unable to breathe because we were laughing so hard. I still think that Buddy Hackett was the funniest man that ever lived...

RC

Okay, I admit it. It was 22 years ago.

Watching one episode of "Las Vegas". It was horrible and hilarious at the same time!

One slightly other one is how I accidentally, yes ACCIDENTALLY, ordered porn. If you have ever seen the schedule on Cable TV, where you can order something simply by selecting it and agreeing to the charge, you'll know how it happened. I was with a friend, and after it came on, I told my dad, he called the cable company to report it and have it stopped, my friend was acting crazy and I was laughing intensely, as I rushed into my bedroom to grab a blank tape to savor the moment. It may sound disgusting to you, but believe me, I had no interest in watching! It was just one of those insanely memorable situations, and it was too funny what was going on, on that screen. lol

...Uh, hard to choose. A lot makes me laugh. Fotunately!
But everytime I see the old "Are you sure you are not an airlinepilot" with Dean Martin, I starts to laug. Allthough I remember every word of it.:D Now that's great humor - and great timing.

The David Letterman "Stupid Pet Tricks" installment where a woman came on with a grreeeat big praying mantis. She finally got it to sit on Dave's shoulder amidst a great show of him eeewing and yipeing and flinching. Finally the megabug is seated calmly on Dave's glen plaid suit shoulder and everything is fine. "You're not nervous?" asks the owner. "Oh no," he assures her. Then just as soon as her back is turned...

...he audibly WHAPS his shoulder.

The OTHER shoulder.

The bug is undisturbed, but the owner turns around in white-hot horror.

mine was also because of a cat video on you tube. Well, more than one, but anyway

I was in a break betwen two classes at my sister's house (which is close to the campus), and I was totally exhausted. So I decided to look at a cat video which I love. And then I started to look at some others, and I was laughing so bad that every part of my body hurt. And I continued looking at those videos, and like this, I choke. I wasn't able to breathe anymore, but I was still laughin , ang I though I would die looking at those videos lol

(i know that they're funny but not THAT funny. Like I said, I was really tired lol)

here is an example of those videos

The hardest laugh I ever had was watching a video on America's Funniest Home Videos where dialog was dubbed in between a squirrel and a deer in someone's backyard. I was ten at the time, so things were funnier then, but I laughed about it for years afterward.

Recently, I had a hard laugh when I was in the dressing room beneath the Saenger Theater's stage during my church's Christmas program. I wasn't supposed to come on stage for a while, but the music had already started. As it was coming through the speaker, one of the other players, a large man dressed only in his shorts and undershirt, with a sweater for warmth, walked through the door and started dramatically ripping his sweater off, button by button. I couldn't tell if he was imitating a stripper or a wrestler, but after the fit of laughs subsided, my first thought was "Oh no, I'm going to laugh on stage now."

Fortunately, I didn't.

Daisy, I can completely visualize that--too funny.

Jack, that's classic. Some comedian should put that in a movie or something.

Fletch, that reminds me of when Johnny Carson was with this sweetly crazy lady who worked at a potato chip factory. She would pick out the chips that looked like something--a face, a squirrel, etc--and keep them in these display boxes. She leaves Johnny holding her most prized chip and turns away; Johnny hides the chip and loudly crunches a generic one. The look on both their faces was priceless. I have it on video but couldn't find it on You Tube.

Cat videos are notorious. There was one from a local tv station urging the adoption of a sweet looking cat. The male reporter is giving the spiel about how wonderful she is and how gentle she is when the cat gets an insane look on its face, turns around and bites the guy in the crotch. The reporter has quite a reaction (as you can imagine) and you can hear the camera operator and the anchors sobbing with laughter. I'd kill to have that one one tape, but didn't find it on You Tube. The Cat News with Smiley Muffin is pretty darn funny too, especially episodes 1 and 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UUdI0WLCzg)

I've had several contenders for funniest moment:

I went with a friend to an unrenovated art deco movie theater to see a film about bloopers from the 1930s. We were late, the theater was dark and we were both watching the screen and trying to be seated quickly so as not to disturb the other patrons. My friend went in first and I sat down quickly on the aisle seat. Then she sat down, leaned back and kept going--apparently the seat back had been removed and there was a "caution" ribbon across it that neither of us saw. I looked over and there were flailing legs where her face should have been. After acertaining that she wasn't hurt both of us started laughing and trying to get her upright, but she was laughing so hard she couldn't get any leverage and kept jackknifing her legs in a way that killed me. Pretty soon the people around us were howling too, which only made things worse. I ended up pulling her legs over her head as if she was going to do a backwards summersault and getting her into the aisle. When we finally got into the lobby she had stale popcorn in her hair. We still talk about that Lucy/Ethel experience.

Another was when I lived in Cambridge, MA near Harvard. I would take the bus home with a group that looked like they were out of central casting for tweedy professors and academics. One day I had a huge bag full of work slung over my shoulder and my enormous company laptop in a bag slung over my front. The bus stopped and I go to exit from the back door of the bus. The weight of the bags altered my balance and somehow I misjudged the number of steps--instead of hitting the last step my foot didn't land on anything and I fell out of the bus flat on my stomach onto the street in a perfect pratfall. Luckily, the laptop efficiently broke my fall but I had the wind knocked out of me. I had semi-recovered and craned my neck back to see the bus. I looked up into the impassive faces of all the window seat passengers staring down at me as the doors snapped shut and the bus moved away from the curb. The vision of myself lying in the street being regarded like a science exhibit struck me as funny and I started laughing, twisting around in the street while trying to get up and being prevented by the weight of the bags, which only made me laugh harder. I eventually untangled myself and made my way home but I'm sure people must have thought I was nuts. The computer was fine too--it must have been a tough machine.

Similar situation - but it was Jonathan Winters & Robin Williams on Johnny Carson. All Johnny and Park Overall (the other guest that night) could do was sit on the sidelines and keep out of the way. I taped the show from the start (how could it NOT have been total hilarity?!?!) and we watched it again twice that evening and the following weekend when Paul's folks were down to visit. We all laughed until we cried every time we've watched it.

All of my funniest moments seem to involve my little brother. He's an odd boy..

The best one was a few months back, the whole family was home when my mum spotted canvassers for one of the political parties coming up our driveway and told us all to hide and pretend there was no one home. (My whole family's a bit odd)

So most of us got out of sight, not my little brother though. Best describe my brother to you, he's 20, fairly well built, and at the time had just finished work, which for him meant he had dirt all over his hands, under his nails, and blood on his fingers where he'd cut himself. At the time he was sitting on the computer chair (the kind with wheels), and when the canvassers rang the doorbell he rode the chair to the front door, crashed into the door, yelled "S****!" and fell onto the floor.

Then he opened up the letterbox, and stuck his dirty, blood covered fingers out of it and said "Mmm..Yeeees?". I can't really describe the voice he used, think fairly high pitched and nasal. Of course, rather than back away the canvasses decided to attempt to hold a conversation.

Canvassers "Do you mind if we come in?"
Brother "Mmmm... noooo"
Canvassers "Well we're from *party name* and were wondering if we could count on your vote?"
Brother "Ummm.. NO!" ("no" squeled in a very high pitched voice) Then he slammed the letterbox shut.

The look on the canvassers faces as they slowly backed down our driveway had me in stitches.

The next time canvassers came round though my mum virtually rugby tackled my brother to keep him away from the door.

To keep the little brother theme alive, I shall rat on a story that happened when my now 18-year-old brother was about 5.

I was 10. I babysat A LOT. We lived behind a mall, and I could go with my little girlfriends, but I usually had to take my brother. Fortunately, my very bestest friend had a little brother the same age so she a) felt my pain and b) the Kindergarten Krew could play together.

But one day in July I had a fatally bad idea, and my friend and I each bought our respective tiny sibling a custard cone from Rita's Water Ice. This was a terrible idea because my hippie-raised brother had NEVER ENCOUNTERED A CONE BEFORE. My mom always got him a single scoop of vanilla in a cup, with a spoon.

I had got him wonderful and oh-so-stainable chocolate.

I am absorbed with my own water ice when I hear my BF say in a strangled voice, "Lookit your brother!"

Two little boys, the same age. One has a tiny chocolate mustache he is dabbing with a napkin. Looks like a Norman Rockwell painting. The other is a MONSTROSITY. It was all over him, his clothes, his shoes. He looked like the Swamp Thing.

My friend shrieks, "Dude, its in his ears!"

And it was.

It was horrible, but it was funny. We couldn't take him home. We ended up washing him the ladies room of Roy Rogers restaurant. The clerks just wanted us to keep him from touching anything.
