Let's take a look at the guys who are hilarious, entertaining, classy, or otherwise just cool. We all have a thing for the likes of Bogie, Stewart, Grant, Gable, et al, but who do you think embodies what is right in movie studios today?

Stay_051101121330220_wideweb__300x375,1.jpg

Ewan McGregor -- Versatile, great singer, great actor. Can be as vulnerable or hard as the role demands. Made the Star Wars prequels watchable to some extent amongst other actors who were being directed the same way. Makes Thom Browne suits look GOOD.

George Clooney -- Classic leading man edge meets the 21st century. Guy can carry the movie or knows when to let others carry it, like in Good Night and Good Luck which he directed and produced. Great style, on and off camera.

Zach Braff -- Does well for himself as actor, director, writer. Looks awesome in a three piece. Is absolutely hilarious. I think this guy is going places.

That's all for now. I'll come up with more later. Post your picks in the meantime!

I'm with you on the first two, but I don't get the Zach Braff thing.shakeshead He just annoys me...
How about:
christian-bale.jpg

Christian Bale. He is the great sacrificer- anything for a role. And he always pulls it off brilliantly.
norton.jpg

Edward Norton. There is no role that he has not been completely and utterly believable in. And he can manipulate an audience like no one else- when you're supposed to love him, you love him, and when he wants you to hate him, you do that, too.

Gary Oldman. The Man. I don't think that I can describe why I think he's the finest actor of his generation, and that's the reason why he is...

I agree on the Braff thing. You should have seen him in one of his early movies. lol

Are we talking movie stars, or actors, cause I feel there is a huge difference.
With the exception of Clooney in recent years, I dont think the ones listed are essentially actors, but movie stars.

One that Im not overly fond of, but I think is a bit of both is Edward Norton.

I don't think that the two are mutually exclusive, at least I hope not!
If you get the chance (and haven't already), I highly recommend seeing The Machinist. The movie is kind of so-so, but Bale is riveting. Ditto Velvet Goldmine and Empire of the Sun.
We shall have to call detente on the subject of Mr. Norton, as I think he is a superb actor who happens to have achieved a great deal of stardom.
I disagree about Oldman, though- I think he is the least "movie star" guy out there. He spent years being "An Actor"; working in little-seen, edgy, independent films- Meantime, Prick Up Your Ears, Track 29, Sid & Nancy- long before he popped up in Dracula, Harry Potter, and Batman.
Of course, I love him beyond just about any other actor I've ever seen, so I'm pretty biased toward him, but I think his body of work bears me out.

I meant both, really. Director Nicholas Meyer:

"What's the difference between an actor and a movie star? An actor is someone who pretends to be somebody else. A movie star is somebody who pretends that somebody else is them. Actors will change their face, will change their hair, will change their voice, will disappear into the role. A movie star doesn't disappear."

I like Daniel Craig. I think he keeps a low profile and is a pretty private guy. Admittedly, I don't know a lot about him, but I think he did a brilliant job in Casino Royale and I can't wait to see him in the next Bond flick. Plus, he really looks good in a suit. :)

All great suggestions. Keep 'em coming.

AmateisGirl: He also looks good in a birthday suit, but I can't show that film still here for obvious reasons.

Ah yes, I have seen those pics. They didn't disappoint me! ;)

Can't believe I left out these guys...
23busc184_1.jpg

Steve Buscemi. I don't know if it's an accurate gauge of acting ability, but I'll tell ya what- every time I watch Reservoir Dogs, I don't tip for a week...
Tim-Roth.jpg

Tim Roth. For me he's up there with Oldman. He does manic, on-the-edge, might snap at any moment better that anyone else...

Agreed on Clooney, MacGregor, Oldman, Craig, Roth and Buscemi.

I do like Denzel Washington even if I find his run of movies in the 90's and early 00's preachy (the Hurricane, Remember the Titans, and so on). Denzel was great in Inside Man (and I want to steal his linen suit and bowtie from that film). I loved him in Devil In A Blue Dress.

Laurence Fishburn. The guy can do Shakespeare (Othello), chew scenery in gangster flicks (Hoodlum) and let a little girl shine in a movie about a spelling Bee (Akeela and the Bee).

Sam Rockwell. The consumate character actor. The (early) Dustin Hoffman of our generation. He can dance (see Charlie's Angels). He can do comedy (see Welcome to Collinwood). He can do drama (see The Green Mile).
