It's quite popular amongst British expats, and I learned to play it in Alexandria. Not the true version, however. Whilst all the normal winning moves were permitted, we had a list of more interesting winning hands (for example: 1,8,6,1 in any one suit, with 1,8,6,5 in another suit, three norths and three souths was a winning hand called "War Between the States"!).
