LOL! Glad you can take a joke. Actually you're right. She loves the Gloverall and loves it when I tell her that all my jackets are bought either used or "on sale". Couldn't afford this stuff new. But like vintage audio gear, classic cars or anything folks are passionate about there's ALWAYS someone looking to "move on" to the next jewel in the crown and that leaves tasty left-overs for us regular folk. What are you looking to buy? Which way do your tastes run if I may ask? Leather? Wool? Waxed Cotton? The choices are endless.

Well....I recently plunked some $ down for an Aero 50's half belt in November.. Still awaiting the delivery on that.. But I have some leather from Schott and avirex, a newish sterlingwear peacoat and I actually do have 2 Barbours...so I guess I have a taste for all three... I'm new to the game of high end stuff, but thanks to guys like you and many others I am enjoying the ride

Don't include me in the the list of the knowledgeable. I came here in January of LAST year. I've learned a great deal from guys like Hoosier Daddy, Butte, Fanch and many MANY others. I'm learning like you and while I loved collecting vintage speakers (ADS, Epicure, AR... etc) this is way more fun as you get to wear something different and unique every single day. It can become an expensive obsession however... Welcome aboard.

Worf, that's a great duffel in a quite unusual colour! Fit is perfect and it looks very good with the rest of your attire!

I recently aquired this Gloverall coat. It's basically a Monty in a shorter length with slightly slimmed down proportions. Especially the sleeves are very narrow now. The coat is made from the same grade of boiled wool as all other Montys. It's a well made and warm coat and nice alternative to my peacoats.

Enjoy yours!

Nice looking coat Herr Solo but do you think the sleeves should/could be a leetle longer? Or did you want em that way? But in all honesty I love the color of the your coat. I've never seen one that color blue. It's lighter than PeaCoat Blue. Well done sir.

Thanks, Worf!
Mine fits perfectly...the pic shows just an anorexic, super tall fashion model wearing the jacket. If I find the time I'll take one or two pics of me wearing the jacket.
I'm 6ft1 and weigh about 155lbs and wear a size 38 which fits as it should with long sleeves and good body length.
The pic gives a quite accurate colour representation. It's a lighter blue than a peacoat and there's also a good amount of charcoal grey in it. It looks more like a slightly faded and toned down navy blue.

Interesting to hear about the colour, since I often find a true navy blue to be too "hard" to look like true quality. It sounds like the colour of your coat is just right. Regarding your sizing: I'm 6'1" and 160 lbs and my chest is 42, so it sounds like you might actually be more like that "super tall fashion model" than you realize!

Worf - very nice duffle coat. I've been watching e-Bay a lot and there's one or two coats I have my eye on, but I never buy them since they always seem too thin or lightweight for my winters. Your coat seems quite heavy, and I'm envious.

Oops, sorry about jinxing you! We're a little chilly down here on the "island" as well, for sure not beach weather! To stay warm You may need to wear all three of the new coats at once..Me, I'm making due with a late model pea coat from Sterlingwear and the cars heater.

Gloverall

I recent bought a duffle from Lands End and the wool was thin and unlined. It did not block the chilly wind. Is the Gloverall wind resistant and is it lined including the sleeves?

My Gloverall is wool out with tartan wool inner, sleeves included. Yesterday was -13 or so with windchill. I did my 10:00 AM Mile walk and was absolutely fine. Also in that its a COAT and not a jacket... you get to keep things warm you might... you know want to keep warm.

It looks great! One question: is the hood removable? I can see times when I'd want one but often not.
What are the specs on the materials? It looks great! I've been wanting a duffle and have yet to find one that is perfect for me. I like the cut of it and the colors, etc. Well done. More info please!

Have to disagree--to me it looks thin and flimsy and I don't care for the combo handwarmer/cargo pocket thing (though I generally like that on leather jackets ), nor the big patches on the front shoulders.....the hood could do with reshaping too, it will catch a lot of weather...

I think I got this image from the Imp War Museum website.

As a teenager I used to wear one of these. It was passed down from my dad who had got it from his father, who had commanded an LRDG unit in the desert. By the time it reached me it was quite a bit the worse for wear and I don't know what happened to it. Coming from a military family there was no sense that these things were relics - they were just bits of old kit and got thrown out as soon as they got too mothy. To this day I associate duffel coats with a) the Desert Rats and b) Paddington Bear and I find this too culturally confusing, so I don't think I'd ever wear one again, iconic though they are.

I have had a couple of these duffles and in the greater scheme of things...to wear, they are not a "nice" coat- they are heavy and scratchy but as an example of what they are, they are just perfect.

I still say they're "tan" in colour but it's been a few years since I've owned one.

I must concur,,they had zero rain tolerance and toggles invariably disappeared..now as for my filson.....
