Feel free to send all those ruined fedoras to me. I will make it my life's mission to train them to symmetry, however long it may take, before returning them to you.

Finally and thank you! I figured there must be at least one member, so selfless as to offer his or her valuable time to assist a fellow FL member in need. It's on it's way. :D :p

I just saw that new movie about Edith Piaf with my wife. There were a lot of good hats in that one and I noticed that the snap brims were generally not perfect. The only hat I've had with a symetric snap brim was a Dobbs with a bound ribbon edge. I have a feeling that's the only way though the hatters here can say whether that's true or not. Don't worry. Hardly anyone will be looking at you dead on anyway.

Look I hate to be analytical, but aren't the characteristics of a hat that are formed by the block, and then the forces at play such as what hand you take it off with, brim-pinching etc etc etc, what make your hat YOURS? Otherwise we'd all have open crowns like some sodbuster in a revisionist western?

A hat's a hat... it keeps your head warm in winter, cool in summer, dry in rain, and staves off skin cancer. Grab it, stick it on top of your melon, and go about your business, I say. Let the hat decide what it wants to look like.

I mean, we wouldn't worry this much about what the break in our trous --

Indeed. I mean, if it looks like somebody slept on it at a party, that's one thing, but otherwise, I just cram it on my head and go.

I am also inclined to feel a little non-symmetry is what gives our hats character. My latest hat is an Adventurebilt from Steve Delk. I had him bash it with a nice plain dress Raiders bash, no turn. So now as I wear it out and about, the hat will mold to my own personality, with swoops and curls from my own "adventures". I also own a couple of JW's hats, as does a buddy of mine. His is a very dressy, all black, c-crown fedora with a bound edge. The last time I saw him wear it, I noticed how asymmetrical the brim was, and it still looked outstanding.
I know the hats are slightly dressier, but I see them more like our leather jackets, where a wrinkle on one sleeve that is not matched by the other sleeve is not only ok, it is character. The brims on our hats are the same size all the way around, so its not an imperfection, but having one side swoop higher than the other, or in adifferent place, looks just fine.

I think your hat looks great.

I don't know if that's such a good idea either. Both of my fedoras would still be open crowned if I were to follow suit. :p

Thanks to all, for the input. It's very much appreciated. I promise to stop obsessing over the imperfections...eventually. Just like in the movie "What about Bob?"....baby steps!:D

Hey Mustang

Some hats do get a little too much character and need a little steam and coaxing but yours doesn't appear to be in that category to my eye. No one, I mean no one, else will scrutinize that area like you are doing (and like I admit I do with my own hats!) People do however sense if one is overly self-conscious about minor details rather than projecting quiet confidence y'know?
Also, as a friend of Bill W., I say "Easy Does It"!
