Recently I picked up an October 1956 issue of Esquire.

Two advertisements from two different companies, Dobbs and Adams, showed a new style of hat. Dobbs called it the "Top-Level" and Adam called it the "Flat-Crown".

Seems the "Flatop" hat was a new style in 1956 and was rather short-lived.

I picked up this Resistol "Flatop" the same day I got the Esquire. What a coincidence!

Wow! Guys used to actually make a living coming up with those clever ads.

Man, how times have changed. The dream ad is so base. You could replace the hat images with about anything.

1. I dream about a dishwasher of my very own.
2. I dream of how I can make my husbands life more easy.
3. I dream I can do all my housework in less than six hours.

I do like the look of that Dobbs though.

It actually looks like a sharp alternative to the centre dent or c crown fedoras.

Very interesting find - especially the parrot.

If the entire price range for Adam hats in 1956 was $5.95 to $10, Adam truly was a budget brand. Looks like the top end price would have been on a par with an entry-level (Royal) Stetson...
