Is the "Who's that in your Avatar?" thread gone for good, too?

If so, would it be proper to start a new one? It was around for quite a while, and was related to things golden era. Besides, it saved me from sending PMs to a lot of folks wondering what's in the tiny picture.

I'm guessing it is one of the threads lost, and probably doesn't need to be started up again. It was started several years ago if I recall correctly, and since some folks around here change their avatars every other day or so, it becomes unwieldy at best, and inaccurate almost instantly. Probably best to stick to PMs. :)

I am very saddened by the fact we cannot really socialise anymore - that every other thread is being locked and being referred to as blog material. That is like trying to start a converstion with one self. Now it will be the usual fantastic party, with snappy dressed people but without being allowed to talk and chat with eachother - which really was the charm behind all of this.

EDIT : Olive Bleu - I feel the same way regarding many of your points - it holds a wealth of information. I would like to explain further what I mean exactly, but I know it will lead to me being banned.

Since the crash, i have read a few posts from folks who are a bit sad to see some of the old threads go.And as I know that sometimes we only hear one side of things, i would like to add my 2 cents. for what it's worth.I enjoyed some of the old threads too that weren't exactly "vintage" oriented. i even participated in some of them. But i don't really care that they are gone. When I discovered this place, i was overjoyed.I have spent too much of my life being called"strange" and "different" I still do of course, but i never knew there were so many other "strange" and "different' folks out there who love the golden era as i do.And what's more , many of the people here know a heck of a lot more than i do.So I'm here primarily to glean from their knowledge.I do enjoy the fun, and i still feel that i can chat within the usual posts, it's just more chat about vintage stuff. I appreciate that this place is different.and i appreciate the efforts of the bartenders to keep it that way. Like i said..just my .02:)

Check out the threads here in the OB that have padlocks on them. Be sure to read the last post in each.

The thing is that it's ultimately a subjective decision what belongs and what doesn't. I think anyone who has a beef with a bartender's decision to shut down a thread ought to PM that bartender. POLITELY!
There are a number of threads I think deserved to live that have been killed off lately. Ultimately it's the decision of the board owner and the bartenders. But maybe we could have a civil discussion of what belongs and what doesn't, based on sensible criteria and calm reasoning. :)
If you think a thread deserves to live, try to justify it in terms of the "mission statement" of the fedora Lounge.

Well, I have heard many stories about bartenders simply not responding when people are adressing them politely in PMs. But as you said this is MK's board and he has a right to decide what should be on it, wether or not some of us agree with those decisions. I think someone stated this is not a democracy but a dictatorship? Or am I remembering it wrong?

Iphone vs. beautiful, vintagefied pics of our loungers.. I know what I would choose, but it isn't my board.

I think every bartender on this board will tell you this is absolutely untrue.
Bartenders always reply to p.m inquiries, and especially polite ones. :)

Perhaps a way to get the best of both worlds would be encourage use of the Facebook and Myspace Fedora Lounge groups for non-vintage subjects?

One could preserve the integrity of the lounge while addressing much of the same people.

well I have tried not getting any response to emails. But who knows - maybe those emails and other peoples pm's got lost. But this is good, we are getting POV's from both loungers & bartenders.

Is it possible the bartender's inbox was full?
In this case you would have to resend the the mail.
Bartenders are people too and it is possible for someone to forget to reply. We all have day jobs and families.
I sincerely doubt enough p.m.s have been ignored to qualify as a rule for the place.

My experience (with a minor grumble with one, but I won't air out my dirty laundry in public) is that the BT's are generally class acts, and frankly are the kind of Mod/Admin type I try to be on my own moderated boards.

Darhling, I think sometimes messages get lost in the void between "send" and "receive"--I've had several just disappear, so it's a possibility.
