Yeah I saw that and was mystified. What possible conflagration of circumstance could have spit this out of its maw? I'd say the 70's, but I'm not sure that's even pejorative enough to be appropriate.

I don't like the trousers, but apart from that it's not too bad. I think that if worn by the right person, in the right way, with the right accessories, it could be quite impressive.

(Mind you, I can recall going to school in a shiny mid-brown 1950s tuxedo, back in the mid 1980s. A truly horrible suit ... so maybe I'm not the best person to judge)

Perhaps is a former costume from Bugsy Malone? ;)

When I was a child and I saw Bugsy Malone, I wanted to be one of the dancers (not Tallulah - never her). My Nana was in a ameteur tap troupe in the 1930s so between that movie and my Nana's old photos, I think it was inevitable I would fall for the 1930s style.

It did sadden me to later learn they had cut down original garments to fit the child actors. However, there is nothing to say that even if they hadn't been cut down, they wouldn't have ended up ruined some other way or thrown out anyway. As they say 'that's showbiz'. [huh]

I was in a costume rental shop yesterday and noticed several 1940's DB suits that were defaced in a similar manner. Apparently, they were for a "Sherlock Holmes" look...
