Wouldn't put that past our Bertie. Though he's technically a rescue, his mum was taken into the shelter pregnant; he was born there and has never had to live rough. And yet still his den in our lounge is always full of trash. He's got a real magpie eye, forever pulling shiny bits and crisp bags out of the bin, running off with them as soon as we're finished. Funny little man. Sleeps at my feet at night, though as it's cold currently he tends to burrow under the blankets and stay there all night.

I see five star have a sale on the seal colour of the leather helmet bag. I'm very tempted.... I've been considering a nylon version for a while which I will probably pick up eventually (they look a nice size for a weekend bag), but the leather one is quite special...

Yes, look about right to fit a laptop as well as a change of shirt and underwear, and a couple of necessary bits.

Has anyone any experience of a waxed cotton messenger bag? I'm looking at one on Etsy, but I'm just a tiny bit wary of whether it'll leave deposits on my clothes. Had a leather briefcase years ago with a waxy finish that, if it was wet or humid-hot, it left a brown stain on whatever I was wearing - had to give up on it after a while. Wax cotton appeals, though, as an alternative to leather and still rain-resistant.
