Do you have a photo? I love NEXT. Sorry for your loss.

I am still a huge advocate of the Barbour Tarras Bag.

Good looking bag. I don't think I do have any photos of my Next bag, though I would recognise a match for it immediately. I like a lot of the accessories Next do. They have some niced clothes here and there, though it's been a long time since I bought much in there as the last few seasons they've been into that "broken down" look in a lot of their stuff, which I'm really not a fan of. Generally though the quality is good in my experience, my one big complaint being that they change their collections so quickly, it's really annoying if you're the sort of person who likes to replace like for like when it wears out rather than following the diktat of fashion.

I carry a "man purse" on occasion. There're just those times when you don't want to have to hump around a backpack (or need to), especially if you're doing a lot of commuting on public transportation.

I've been carrying a Manhattan Portage bag for years. Not exactly "vintage" or "classy", but highly functional and sturdier than a soft briefcase.

...and if you're feeling insecure about it just remember that ladies love a man with a stylish piece of kit...

I have to say THANKS! I just found my new bag for school, that is exactly what I was looking for.

I've started looking for a leather bag with a strap to use instead of my backpack some of the time. One of the PhD students in the department has a nice one, but I'm not sure where it's from. I carry a lot of books and notebooks, and room for that plus my laptop is an absolute must.

Try these folks:

(See my post above). Seem to be very competitive for price on leather bags, and they have a couple of models that should be exactly what you want.

I don't know about "interesting" per se, but this was my Christmas gift from my father in law. It's probably the most respected bag on the Lounge - the Custom Hide US Army 1945-model brief case.

It's the nicest briefcase I've ever seen. It's 100% leather, good thick stuff like you'd hang off a horse or a Harley. Plus, when I carry it, I feel a nice kinship with Justice Jackson, as I imagine he carried this same bag at Nuremberg.

My uncle saw it the other day and called it my "Von Stauffenberg" bag, as it reminded him of the bag that was probably used in the plot to kill Hitler.

I use, on a daily basis, a truly atrocious black ballistic nylon laptop bag with a big velcro-closure pocket on one side. This thread had given me some great products to consider. Thanks, all.

Bought one of the fishing bags in green and have seen the oilskin bags which are really nice. Also they're made exclusively in a UK factory..
They're from a shop in Cheshire street London but they do online shipping

Of course, to be truly wartime authentic, it would have to be tanned in a way that promotes red-rot, and the gussets would be papery leatherette that is delicious to worms. :D

I love that case.

I have to question just how 'masculine' this is.

Gents, surely this is a place where 'men are men' and those who carry Kindergarten/High School-like sachels should be in those places.

Quite frankly, this 'man purse' idea is totally 'girly' and chips away at the hunter/gatherer masculine man!! It is more at home with the 21st Century modern 'metrosexual' rather than the Golden Age swashbuckler masculinity that we celebrate so highly 'here' on TFL.

Men don't carry purses, we carry wallets, and don't even try to call this a MAN WALLET!!

Be-Gad, slap me with a kipper and throw me a pair of panty-hose if I 'ever, ever' consider throwing such an abomination over my manly shoulder!! ;)

My local surplus shop has British respirator cases and Italian and French gas mask bags (that mix canvas and leather straps, a popular look among 'high-end' brands - see what I mean?).

Cheap, masculine (who can doubt it?) and functional. That's all I need.
