First Post.

This isn't a "dumbest" comment I've heard, just a comment. I wore my Akubra "Capricorn" to watch a parade over the Memorial Day weekend, and my mom commented that I looked like I could have been one of her uncles - she said it looked as if I were from an old photo. I took it as a compliment.
Well you better, after all, you can't slap your Mama.lol

insulted by a potato!

I had the animatronic Mr. Potato Head at Disney California Adventure insult me yesterday. My wife and I were the only ones standing in front of the Midway Madness ride, watching the Mr. Potato Head, when he said, "You sir, in black! (I was wearing a black shirt and a black Stetson), yeah, you with the hat! Please sir, do me a favor and lose the hat! Really." I knew they had programmed it to recognize people in the crowd and call them out, but that was just hilarious! We laughed halfway back to the exit.

It may actaully be part of the security system. The cameras and taping of the park in case of a crime occurring where the hat makes it harder to ID a person.

I had the same exact thing happen to me there last summer! Funny! I just told him 'Not on your life & to smile when he said that'. lol
If you look above the Mr. Potato Head there is one of those camera domes like you see in a Vegas casino. They employ the same thing with Turtle Talk where they have some one behind the scene typing the dialog to speak. I was wearing my brown Camptown but he wasn't as specific with me as he was with you. Funny though. lol

Then a lot of people would be asked to removed their Dorfman Pacific hats & Jack Skellington hats with wide brims too. Nah, it's just a cast member screwing with the public anonymously because they can. ;)

Cheers!

I got off the plane in Hong Kong and as I walked through the airport a lady in a uniform told me in no uncertain terms to take off my hat. I found out later that they have a way of pointing a gadget at you that takes your temperature and if you're running a fever they put you right back on a plane home. At first I thought they just hated hats.

I was recently of Hay-on-Wey and I was wearing a grey two-piece, a grey doeskin waistcoat and a Panama hat. Whilst I was walking across the car park someone from a nearby coach shouted, clearly to me;

"Hey, Clint Eastwood!"

Hmm... I don't what to say to that.

Our office has a tradition of wearing costumes for Halloween. One year I dressed up like Albert Einstein (Who I look like anyway). I wore a long, black wool coat, black pants, black silk tie, white shirt. I had the straight pipe, the ratted hair, mustache/moustache, everything. I even wore a picture of Einstein on a cord around my neck to show the resemblance. Several people had no idea who Einstein was at all and never heard his name before. One person said " are you Sherlock Holmes?" It was then that I realized that I was alone in the universe, so very very alone.

That is probably the dumbest comment I have ever heard, my sympathies.

Nice anecdote though.

Not really a "dummest comment" but today we're sitting at dinner, and someone mentioned Stetson, and I knew, I knew the word, so I'm like "Thats a hat company right? Like real hats, with brims and such..not caps right?" and everyone is just staring at me like I've gone mad...and my brother says "they make cowboy hats." to which my reply is "yea, but they make real hats too, like fedoras and stuff..." and my dad says "not like, bowlers and stuff..." and I just stop talking because I feel dumb. Go upstairs and look it up and I'm right! They do make other real hats!!! I go downstairs and tell my dad and he says "oh, yea, I thought so" lol But now I don't feel as stupid, go hat luving me! :D

Otherwise it's Amish or nothing, if not, "nice hat!"

A few weeks ago whilst I was walking along 33rd Street in New York City with my father and a friend of his who was hosting us for the weekend someone yelled out, 'nice hat, Indiana Jones!" I was at the time wearing a wide-brimmed Cuencano panama with a relatively low, tapered crown. Oddly enough, the only other time that I was called, "Indiana Jones," was five years ago when I was wearing a raffia fedora that I have since lost.

Maybe the same dumbass stole the raffia hat and now wears it with his Indy costume. ;) :p

I know what you're thinking. "Did he get a gun to go with that hat?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as it might be a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

;) :p

Me & a friend of mine were walking in Pikes Place Market wearing dark suits and black fedoras, and this guy does a double-take and shouts out, "The Blues Brothers!"

:eek:fftopic:

I had something similar happen to me while at Knott's Berry Farm many years ago. A friend and I went to get on the "Jaguar" roller coaster while the rest of our group waited outside for us. That area of the park was particularly non-crowded during this day, so we were the only ones in the whole vicinity of the ride save for like two other families.

Well, in the case of a really long line they herd you through a really long stretch of dark, twisting tunnels (very similar to the IJ ride at Disney if you can picture it). Whilst walking my friend mentions that she "heard something" and freezes as if death approaches. I of course take her completely non-seriously and said something to the extent of "How funny would it be if you heard a RAAAAWWWWRRRRR all of a sudden?" We joked about it for a while, perfecting a Jurassic Park-type screech and getting progressively louder, both of feeling completely secure in a theme park in the middle of the day obviously. Then as we continue walking through these tunnels, suddenly a completely blood-curdling and obviously non-human vocalization reverberates throught the complex of tunnels, seemingly from behind us.

Any humourous expressions we had on our faces were wiped clean as we sprinted manicially through the remainder of the tunnels, only to run out into the loading area to see a hysterical employee.

Stupid comment

Most of the time, people are very complimentary of hats. But, as I perform in the opera orchestra, we are required to wear tuxedos. Coming to work in a black coat and black Biltmore fedora, one of my collegues comments "You look like a Nazi!" I ignored it the first time, but the second time he said it, I responded by saying that I could not relate to his comment as my Mother, who is French, lived through the air raids, my daughter is a duel citizen of US and Germany, her great grandmother hid a family of Jews in her home, my French grandfather was a Partisan in the mountains fighting the Nazis......and many of my friends are Jewish and I even write Jewish music from time to time. Amazingly, he told me I looked like the Nazi in the first Indiana movie. Some people just don't get it.

Again, from limited exposure this is the only connection a limited person was able to make. Find a cheap DVD of a 40's movie without Nazis but with fedoras and give it to him, maybe you can steer his perception?

If you hear it all the time from many others, give it consideration, from just the one, well then it's ONE person's perception.

In reality it's our own perceptions of our selves that should shape us most.

Why someone would imagine a person in a tux & black fedora as a nazi and not as a hassidic Jew just proves that stupidity still reigns supreme on this planet.
