Thank you Jimmy and all. Its definitely one of my favorites. The color is near impossible to match with clothing...except blue denim. Seems to be an Indigo dye. Kind of a "Baseball Diamond" crease.

I was taken aback by this comment at first but after some thought I remember from the photos you have posted that you are a matcher, Robert. Your tendency seems to be - and you are very skilled at it - to match adjacent colors.

I think that blue lid would clash very nicely with almost anything.

My new (old) Disney. 7 3/8, like new, black. Origianlly sold in Koblentz Men's Store, Chattanooga, Tennessee (long gone). Man, I love it.

I missed this earlier, but I own its brother. These are the original pictures of my Disney, found at a thrift store in Chattanooga, size 7 3/8, sold at Koblentz. It has been refurbished by Art Fawcett since. He dated it as a 1940s hat. As it happens, it's what I'm wearing today.

I also see you're a member at Mandolin Cafe, a site I've been visiting for years. What kind of mandolin do you have?

The color is hard to photograph correctly - the bits of the brim that you see in the sweatband photos come pretty close to actual. It's a deep reddish-brown.

The O.P.A. tag (fell out from behind the sweatband) dates it to sometime between 1942-46. The felt is buttery smooth - I'm not sure it will hold it's c-crown bash, might have to give it a center dent. The ribbon and binding are clean as a whistle, no grime or dinginess present like I've seen with my other vintage lids.

The brim is 2 7/8", crown as bashed is right at 5". Now I have to find some clothes to match it with! It actually looked good with the olive suit I wore today:

I got this hat for $90 because the seller knew little about hats, it was dirty, and it was listed thusly:
"MR DISNEY GRAY PANAMA HAT AND HAT BOX"

I think you got a great deal, Scott - is that a cav edge? I really like the box bow ribbon treatment too.

A couple of nice Disneys posted here recently...

Salty -- very nice looking lid! :eusa_clap

Woody -- fantastic! :eusa_clap What color is that ribbon?
Incidentally, looks from the photos like yours is an underwelt that has a cav edge look on top (see my Disney on the previous page for an example of what I mean).

Cheers,
JtL

Thanks Jimmy, the ribbon is almost black but has a wine/burgundy sheen and as far as the edge... it's hard to tell if it is over or under. Neither fish nor fowl[huh] lol

Could you post a photo of the underside of the brim?

Beautiful ribbon, by the way. :)

Disney Fifteen Homburg

I just got my vintage black Disney homburg today and I have to say that this hat is by far my best homburg. The pictures do the hat no justice. The color is an extreamly deep deep black, the felt is sooooo soft and the quality of all of the materials is really top notch. I would say that the hat is maybe from the late 40's, or early 50's. It was possibly worn twice. The only thing that makes this hat near mint and not a perfect mint is the fact that the reed on the sweatband has a little wear, but thats it. The plastic sweatband guard is still perfect, the liner is a perfect pearl white, the sweatband is soft and pliable, and the felt is perfect. No moth bites, no odors, no stains. Whats really unique about the hat is that the sweatband has a very cool pattern stamped into it. Almost like an aztec patern. The ribbon measures 2 1/4 inches wide, and the open crown is aproximately 5 3/4 inches tall. (See pics)
