This Mallory "The Dallas" arrived today from E-bay.

Boy let me tell you its a nice hat! The felt reminds me of my Stetson Stratoliner, its thin and soft.
While this fedora has a couple moth nibbles [I think I will be able to all but remove them from sight] and it could use a naphta bath I have worn it to the Lake this afternoon.
I can tell that this hat will be getting alot of wear this winter!!

Hey Indy cop... maybe I can get a few photos by the waterfall!! :D

By the way the soft felt took to a diamond crease real well.

The Dallas is a great hat. A female friend of mine has one; it's a "fifteen" grade. Very nice felt, soft and supple. We were in a vintage clothing/antique store and I had her trying on all the hats that were too small for me. (She's a 7-7 1/8, whereas I'm a 7 1/2.) There were several that I thought looked good on her, and a couple of them were in excellent condition, but she kept coming back to the well-worn Dallas, moth bites and all. I could tell by the look on her face when she put it on that it was the hat for her. I told her the most important thing was how the hat felt on her head, and how it made her feel when she was wearing it. I shaped it into a C crown for her, and now I'm working on convincing her that it's OK to wear it in the rain. :)

The ribbon is gold tone. maybe age has done it but I plan on a cleaning next week, so we will see what happens then. I believe after a cleaning the color will really be bright.

The Dallas is looking better every day. Can't wait to see you wearing it after the cleaning. Prepared to be impressed.

The reason I asked ...

IMGP0603.jpg

is because this hat ...

is among the best in my stable. It's hands-down the finest of the OR-ish lids. If yours can be brought back to like-new condition (majormoore is doing the work, I'm supposing?), it'll be one fine lid.

My hat is not in that good of shape... but it has a different type logo on it. Maybe mine is older....???
I will try to soon get a photo of the sweat.

Yeah, this one looks almost NOS. Not quite, but close. I try to keep it that way. It's a tad snug, and I don't want to do anything to alter it from its original condition, so it rarely gets worn.

I'm curious about the history of the Dallas model as well. How long it ran, from when to when, etc. And what designations they gave the various grades and felt types.

This Pliafelt stuff is thin and quite smooth to the touch. It's more a Sunday-go-to-meeting hat than a knockabout.

Way to go, RBH! :eusa_clap That one is definitely worth fixing up. My Dallas is, without a doubt, one of my nicest thin ribbbons, and the Pliafelt is just beautiful. I love wearing it.

Looking forward to the results!

Cheers,
JtL

The felt has a few stains that should come out with the naptha.
The sweat is in ok shape, but to send it to the Major it would likely take a complete re-furb.
I have not found Pliafelt on my hat at all.
on the sweat where it has
Mallory The Dallas
it has a oblong circle that has in it

This hat also has a cloth size tag in the back of the sweat, I dont think I have seen one with cloth before.
