That sure is a beauty! I like the leather work on that hat band too. I'm guessing Rick did that as well, knowing his multi talented craftsmanship.

Yes, the leatherwork is Rick's as well. I explained to him roughly what I wanted, and he produced a band that made it seem that he could read my mind. He has many talents!

Terry, here are some around-the-hat shots. If you need a view I have not included, please do not hesitate to ask. The first head-on shot seems to widen the brim and shorten the crown somewhat. The brim is 3" wide and the crown 5" to the top of the front crease. The hat is a size 7-3/4, to put things in perspective:













You will notice the hat is accumulating snow pellets as the photos progress. I went out in a partially-cloudy sky to get some decent light, and as soon as I started taking pictures I started getting pelted with snow pellets! It makes me a little bit suspicious - maybe Rick has yet another talent that he hasn't yet disclosed to us? Could he have conjured this hat to create its own weather? How about it Rick, any Native American medicine men in your ancestry???

Yessir, buddy! Sure is nice! Rick made you up a winner right there! My hat is close to the same height. Mine is creased to 4 3/4 at the pinch with a rake sloping to 4 1/4 inches to the back. As creased, it's 5 1/4 inches tall all around and has a 6 inch open crown. Actually, I'm not much a fan of Center Dents anymore like I used to be. I'm just basically so, so about this hat. I think the orangey color mostly kills it for me. But, I'll try to do something with it.

Well, if Rick is talented enough to change the weather and to make it snow and rain, I'm putting my order in to him for some sunshine up my way!

Until I decide what I want to do with the orange beast I was working on, I've also been working on converting this Biltmore in the meantime. This hat was gifted to me by a fellow Lounger. It started out as a size 6 3/4 and I'm sizing it up to a 7 1/4. This hat started out with 6 3/4 inches of open crown and 4 inches of brim width, so I had plenty of hat to work with. The new crown height will be at 5 3/4. I still have plenty of brim left over to work with as well. It'll probably take another day for it to dry on the block. The color on this is pretty interesting. It looks to be a dark gray with brownish undertones. I'm pretty anxious to see how this color comes out after it dries.

While the Biltmore is drying on the block, (and it's definitely looking very interesting as far as the color goes), I recreased the Thoroughbred again. The Center Dent just wasn't doing it for me. The crown's too tall for a Center Dent, IMO. I recreased it to my preferred Teardrop. Still trying to decide what to do with the brim. It's at 3 1/2 inches wide at the moment. I thought about doing as Rick suggested and try making an Adventurer / Safari style hat out of it. With that, I would trim the brim to 3 inches wide. Still deciding. The ribbon that's on it is not sewn on and I probably won't using it on this hat....

I think Thanksgiving day each year would be about the only time I'd ever wear this orange beast! It's pretty ugly! It looks like a Rodeo Clown hat!

That's pretty funny! At least it will get some use one day a year. It might be time to break out the brown hair dye!

Also, it probably doesn't matter to you, but I made a mistake when I was giving you the dimensions of my Phoenix hat. The brim is 3-1/4" wide, not 3". I knew that but must have been having a brain cramp when I was typing. I only mention it because sometimes an eighth or quarter inch really can affect the overall look. It took me a while to realize that (but I'm certain you figured it out long ago!).
