This will probably ruffle some feathers.

c.1900s Chamois homburg into a fedora. I'm happy with the outcome. Reason for the change is I love the hat, I just can't wrap my head around homburgs. Now, I'll wear it more often, than have it live in a box.

Consider my feathers ruffled. Such a nice homburg too. Maybe it's because the homburg is supposed to wrap itself around your head, Justin, not the other way around:). It's your hat however and you should do as you please and you did a fine job transforming it.

I really like it. I've considered it myself, but I'll keep my Cavanagh as a Homburg. But if I find a nice Hommie with a wide enough brim... it may be in danger.

Really looking forward to seeing what you do with this one! That Micheal R. Is quite the generous gentleman.

I'm almost finished with it! I decided to go with a fedora style. The sweat band's already sewn in, the brim is cut down and I'm near to putting it back together. It was the most stubborn hat I think I ever tackled, but one of the most higher quality made hats I ever saw. It was a low crowned Western and the wider brim made it look out of proportion to keep it that way. I was going to try and get 5 3/4 out of the crown but I could not get that thing to stretch on the block. I kept it at a 5 1/2 open crown on a straight sided block and gave it my preferred teardrop crease. I got the original liner and sweat bow cleaned up like new and I'm going to reuse the ribbon and brim binding as well. I also saved the manufacturer's label and I'll be putting that in too. After I took the old sweat out I found the size tag still attached. That'll be going back in also. I think this one's going to come out really nice.

Definitely. Michael's a great guy and I really appreciate him giving me this hat. It's a good one.

Thanks again Michael! I'm really liking this hat!

Some updated pics of the Navy Blue 3X Resistol that Michael R gifted to me. This will be a total refurb and conversion. Except for the sweat I'm reusing everything that was original to the hat. I have the brim binding tacked on with basting stitches and I'll be sewing it on this a.m. if no one here at home interrupts me, ( the wife in particular that is). Afterward I'll be cleaning up the hatband and will sew that on as well. The liner and sweat bow are cleaned up like new and I'll also be putting the size tag and the manufacturer's label back in....

Here's what I have up to this point...

I found the size tag bent up behind the old sweat. It came off pretty good and I reinforced it with some thin card stock and transpore tape...

I found this Resistol Weekend Roundup and was going to do a conversion.I like the hat the way it is so I only changed the rope band to a ribbon and bow.

The bound brim works really well with that ribbon choice. Nice work.

Is there a How To thread for ribbon replacement? I wasn't able to find anything useful on YouTube.
