I just watched her in an old Sinatra movie called The Detective. ❤️
Check out Tony Rome. I put Tony Rome, The Detective, and the Rome sequel Lady in Cement in the same bag of latter day Blue Eyes playing the same character, but only the original Rome really works. In all three movies Sinatra is pudgy, past his snake-hips youth, but in Rome he knows it and plays on the fact that he's no longer the coolest guy on the planet. By the sequel, and in the Detective, he's gone back to his original persona, getting the girl (literally sweeping her off her feet in the Detective), and self-assured. Even though the back story in Detective is that his wife is a nympho that he can't control, he still beds her when he wants to (in what today would be a very controversial scene), and even while playing it a tad world-weary (when it is plain that the murder victim is gay and another cop passes a remark, Frank says something to the effect of, "I got my own problems," dismissing any judgement), there is still a dignity to his character, a panache. But in Tony Rome, he's a guy beaten, tossed out of the NYPD, and completely un-hip by the new standards of the sixties. And he knows it. He even complains about not getting laid! Two beautiful women get close to him, but he gets nowhere with either of them. While the cool cats are wearing beads and long hair, he's parading around in a captain's hat like Thurston Howell on Gilligan's Island. For my money it's one of his best performances, pissing on his own image. And a good movie.

And here's my "new" vintage houndstooth cap, fresh from the dry cleaner. Got the black off the sweat, but I've learned that wool is going to smell like... wool. So although I've been thinking some of my vintage fur felt hats (which must have some wool in them after all) were a bit "stinky" the fact of the matter is they have an aroma. No biggie. Who's going to be sniffing my hats, anyway? So I can stop obsessing about that! Also, was able to get a look inside the wrinkled tip logo to discover it was sold out of The Wee Gift Hoose!

That's really a nice cap! I was going to add that none of my 100% wool caps have any discernible aroma, but my nose was badly broken when I was six years old so my sense of smell has been quite dissimilar to most people for the last 55 years.

Just saw an interesting announcement from Gamble and Gunn. They've obtained very old Harris Tweed and are making caps from it

"With help from The Harris Tweed Authority we have established this hand woven Harris Tweed from small independant Harris weaver was made at some point between April 1968 and January 1969.

After lying dormant for 54 years, the Borman has been made is made using this vintage Harris Tweed a mid grey in colour with hints of blue, turquoise, orange and red within the yarn, a completely unique batch of cloth caps entirely manufactured in the UK.

1968 was a year of seismic social and political change across the globe, the world would never be the same again. This hat has history literally woven into its fabric!

These tweeds are made only in small runs, in 6m x 750cm lengths only. This is an artisan creation made from the yarn the weaver chooses, made locally, therefore each batch cannot be created exactly again making these completely individual items"

I just saw this a week ago. Sadly, my size is unavailable, but I think they have my son-in-law’s size. It would make a wonderful Christmas gift.

Nico, I was looking for my first 8-panel cap. It may be surprising to some, but I am considering their red and vermilion caps. Red is my color, and It appears in my closet in many ways. Is this the red or vermilion color? You can PM me, if it’s easier.
In my humble perspective, it's has more orange than red. So it's vermillion.

Here's what it looked like during this morning's hike

The front was stitched to the brim (no snap), but the thread was coming loose/half off so I undid it.
Happens all the time with older stitched caps, that's why i prefer ones with snap brims, it's very easy to fix though, just do some small stitches in the very middle a few times if you get what i mean.
RE: sewing down the front, I won't. wearing it 'loose' just sitting on the head is fine, with the front naturally laying on the visor, but in the wind you need to be able to jam it on your head, and that means letting the flap pop up. As on old friend once explained, it may look stupid to wear it that way, but you look much, much stupider chasing your hat down the street. And after all, if Bob Dylan thinks it's cool, it's cool.
From what i understand, the snap button was so you could have the cap sagging to the left or the right, like on the picture with Jacqueline Bisset, at least i think that's the case with the older baggier style flat caps and newsboys. it looks a bit daft undone imo. This is why i remove the crap plastic bit they add to the snap brim inside caps these days, so i can style it to how i want and make it look more rakish.

That red looks great. The color looks better on you than me.

53 degrees, breezy with a light rain for this morning's 5 mile hike.

Wore my dark grey Donegal tweed cap from Gamble and Gunn.

Ordinarily, I'd wear one of my Akubra hats in rainy weather. But this cap has been a bit tight since I bought it.

The wetter it got, the farther I pulled it down on my head.

After I was done, i blotted off the excess water. I'll wear it around the house until it dries.
