Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I think you guys will know more about flat caps than anyone else on FL. Looking back at the history of these caps we wear, and looking at historical pictures of guys wearing them (say for instance, those pics of the workers building the Empire State Building), what percentage of those caps (at a guess) had leather sweatbands? Were they rare, or were they so common that it'd be odd for them to not have a leather sweat?

I can't speak for the US, but from what I've seen, leather bands in UK caps don't appear to be that common even in vintage caps.

All the vintage caps that I have seen and own have had either partial or full leather sweatbands, and the ones that didn't were the caps with earflaps. So I believe that it was something common on all caps. But I could be wrong. Maybe RLK, Alan or BK can give there thoughts?

The majority did use partial or full leather.
Some did just use pure silk banding but yes the majority did use leather or fake leather.

Today I got a sentimental treasure passed down to my uncle from my great uncle. Vintage 8 dart houndstooth wool plaid with half leather sweat. Just my size but again its sentimental and was given to him
