JohnnyJ and Barry Simonds (see the Merchants section) are our best and most established cap makers, and DamianM is making inroads into the cap making business. There's also a chap in Germany whose moniker I can't remember. And Stuffsmith, but I don't think he sells his caps.

Thank you, Baron, this helps a lot.

Next question: how does one find a "heavy wool" cap? As opposed to the ones for sale by say, Hanna Hats? I want a heavier one that will keep me warm in snow country. This one looks like it'd do it.

I was referring to the weight of the fabric the cap is cut from Blackthorn. Of course this is subjective but as Baron mentioned a custom maker can provide or you could source your own and let them use it. I'll also add that Black Sheep Hat Works, though better known for hats, also makes nice caps.

A couple of new arrivals:

A gift from Manfred - 'Derby Cap' Probably German manufacture 50's/60's. Nice leather front, lovely fabric and in superb condition:

and a new James Dermot herringbone cap -lovely quality, but visually a little bit too tapered towards the peak for my round head:

Hey Blackthorn, hope you got the information that you need. Lots of resources around here. If all else fails you can opt for a vintage cap, of which I have many for sale. Just PM me if that's the case.

Richard, both those caps are terrific but I really love the one that Manfred passed on to you! I like the slightly fuller cut than I'm used to seeing on you – it really suits!

Thanks Keith - yes the fuller cut suits my big head much better than most English flat caps and it's a 61!

Damian & Keith nice caps for those with tiny noggins ;)

Congrats on the new ones Richard. The Derby looks good on you.

Damian - nice work. Those are good looking caps.
The ones you are offering are pretty sporty too, Keith.
I wish both you guys success in your endeavors.

Great pic Keith!. Hope the Mexican food was good.

Some of the hardest food to find in an otherwise food-savvy city. Only recently has Mexican made inroads at all. Only one that is the real thing. The others are as Mexican as Chinese food in the US is Chinese!

Hi ya!

Doe anyone know anything about Paul's Hat Works? Not the the general info I get on their site but as far as repro 1920'-30's newsboy's caps are concerned.

Do you know if they use an old cap or pattern of any sort to reproduce a cap from that era?

Thanks all!

I haven't tried them in caps, but I'm not a fan in general, having used them on several occasions.
