Howdy folks, I've just ordered my very first cap of any kind from hat people. It's the Herringbone Brown and Black.

Fantastic looking cap Torpedo...I have a very similar one that has ear flaps that fold up into the hat or down over your ears making it a great cold weather hat. I wear mine when spending a long time outdoors during the cold winters we have here in central Canada. Temps go down into the -30's celsius during Jan and Feb.

Hey Derek, post some pics when you get it. I'm trying to decide between that one or the one Neo is waiting to receive. What cut did you order?

I received notice yesterday that my Hat People cap has arrived at my house. I'll be there in a few hours, I can't wait! That was pretty fast shipping considering they told me they sent it out on Tuesday.

I will update with pics and impressions later today.

Alright, as promised, here are my impressions of the cap and some pics:

Though wool, the cap is well put together and doesn't have the "rough" texture I expected of a wool cap. Pretty smooth and a pleasure to handle. The full cut is big, but gives you enough material to shape the cap as you see fit. Once I set it in place, it stays there. When I take it off, though, it loses the shape and I have to start over. I don't mind, though, as I expect to be able to wear this cap where it would be inconvenient or ill-mannered to don a full-brim hat (I still won't wear it in church, though).
As I am a long oval (possibly extra long oval), I was worried about the fit and contacted Hat People. They advised me to order a 23.25'' (rather than my usual 23''). The reason for this is because of a cool feature in the cap: there is an elastic waistband in the cap that can cinch up to an inch, to adjust for fit. Very cool!The sweatband is grosgrain ribbon and the hat overall is quite comfy and warm. The color of this hat is spectacular! My pictures just don't do it justice.
Possibly my favorite part of this hat is the liner fabric; it's so cool!

I'd describe the color as a bit more green than in this photo. The sun and snow are making all my pics darker. It's hard to take an accurate pic.

Overall, I'd say that the only problem I have with Hat People caps is that I've only got one of them .

Looks nice. Your camera probably has an exposure compensation control. Give the exposure an extra two stops against snow and a stop to stop and a half for a back lit subject. The meter trries to "think" of the subject in terms of medium gray. When you have a lot of contrast you need to slap the meter on the wrist and take some control from it. I thought by wool you meant wool felt but this appears to be a jacquard woven wool.

I spoke with Hat People awhile back about the wool. It is made by Pendleton(I have some of their shirts, very nice) and the herringbone caps are made with the wool used in their sport coats whereas the heavier heather caps are made from the wool used in overcoats.

After time, the shape will actually stay with the cap when you're not wearing it.

to help shape it if you want it to lay flat on the brim, I put a safety pin inside on my sons cap to hold it in place, and now it keeps it shape perfect...

That's great! Thanks for the information. I think I'd like to try one of those heather caps, too. Perhaps the black with grey highlights.

Because I want one and I've made that comment on your last few hats, so I thought it would be funny.

lol I noticed that. I found a newsboy cap at a Johnston and Murphy shop where I got my boots. I liked it well enough, but it was $128!!! When I saw that I could get a quality cap for under $60 at Hat People, my decision was pretty easy .

As I have lived in Oregon my whole life, I can tell you what it is. Pendleton wool is made in Pendleton Oregon and is quite renowned for its water repellency and warmth, and being a high quality wool overall.
The hats are also made here, except Pendleton is in the north, and Talent in the south.

Thank you Scion . I really like it. It's warm, comfy, packable, and it provides surprisingly ample shade given the width of the bill. It's really different from my fedoras, westerns and outback hats, but I've already become used to it.
