it was King Kong (2005) that got me into wanting one of these style of hats, along with an old photo in Germany circa 1923.

Would still like to get this one though.

I've seen too many that are close, but not close enough. Cheap ones, and some good ones, but not spot on. Most have some design on the bill or they are just a Greek Fishermans cap. Then you see those tacky yacht caps. Eww.

I will just keep hunting until I find "the one". I know Sterkowski makes one simiar to this one, but again, it fell a bit short on what I was looking for.

Cheers!

Got my Sterkowski Maciejowka Cap today! Couldn't be happier with it. Ordered the 58cm instead of the 59cm (which is my usual size), a perfect fit out of the box. I will post some pics here in the next day or two. Need to "train" it a little so it will drape the way I want it to without any fuss. I will be ordering more like this in the future.

Cheers!

I dig on their styles. Finally found those caps that aren't the usual Aegean Greek Fishermans cap, or some of the shoddy stuff you might find in a more touristy hat establishment. Made to order so they take a little longer to get, but well worth the wait. I am already planning out the next Sterkowski purchase. :D
Now I just need to find that just right pea coat to go with it. Had seen a German Navy one that I really liked the cut of.

Cheers!

I don't know if he still does, but Diamond Dave, the maker of leather jackets, used to make a beautiful version of that hat when he first started out. I haven't seen them on his website lately, but there's no harm in asking him about it. Good luck.

I know he has a new site that I think is just leather jackets now. Dug on his crusher caps, but even then I think they were out of my price range.

Sterkowski has one that is "close". Just could do without the decoration on the peak. Of course I could contact them and see if they would be willing to do a custom one off since these are made to order. Be worth a try any way.

If they can't, then I think I will hold out until I find exactly what I want out there. I'm sure it's out there, I just have to research more. Or I will just happen across it by accident like so many other things I have found.
Of course for the price it is hard to beat these caps from Sterkowski. Only wished I had found them sooner.

Cheers!

Why than you sir! Most appreciated.
Yeah, I would like to collaborate and create something very unique based on one of their current models.
It was interesting watching their Youtube video. Despite not being able to speak a lick of Polish, I was able to get the gist of what they were talking about. I love that they use some old Pfaff sewing machines, and the simple templates he uses in his sewing of the hats.
Maybe my next venture with Sterkowski I will chat with them and see if we can come up with something unique. There is at least one model that they have in black only that I would like in a navy blue with a red liner. Could prove interesting.

Cheers!

I imagine with a trenchcoat. Or would it be too much WW1? ;)

Hi everyone...
Just starting to get into hats. I'm looking to buy a flat cap. I was wondering if it was better to goto a store directly or buy one online. I've measured my head so I know my size, but this would be the first cap/hat I've bought. Also I live in Montreal, Quebec. Does anyone have any experience with Henri Henri LTD in Montreal? or can suggest a good hat store to goto in Montreal? (or even Ottawa or Toronto)

Thanks....

Hello Zaphod, and welcome. I was checking out the Henri Henri Hat shops web site and the panoramic view of their shop shows that they have a good selection to pick from. If you can I alway encourage purchasing locally. It keeps their business going and it's better for your community. It is also the best way to find out what different makers will fit you best. Trying them on. You will find that if you wear a large in a Stetson or Brixton cap that you will most likely find that a medium in Hannah Caps will fit you and so on. Also by getting your hands on the caps you have in mind you will discover the quality in materials first hand, and you can ask questions to the folks that work there and they will most likely guide you in the right direction.

Now, with that being said, if you cannot find what you are looking for in the brick & mortar store from, then venture on-line. There are plenty of sellers locally and abroad that carry a great variety of manufactured and custom hatting. Batman if Ireland makes some really nice newsboy & flat caps at a reasonable price point. Like Sterkowski they are not a large company so the quality of what you get is good. Then there is the custom route. You get some really quality one off caps, that though they are expensive (at least from my pocketbooks point of view) they are top quality, hand made and unique. No matter which rout you go with, communicating with the sellers is crucial, especially if you order on line and you are unsure of their sizing. If you want to order on line a quick e-mail exchange, or even a phone call can do wonders in reducing any mixups and having you return an item or exchange it because it doesn't fit, especially if you ordering something from overseas.

So, to start with, try out your local hat shop. Its a nice looking place that has been in business since 1932, they look like they have a good selection and I'm sure you can find something in your price point to start with that will please you.
Hope this helps and I'm sure other could chime in and offer even better advice for our newcomer.

Cheers!

Dan

You might want to take a look at Brittainyboutique.com. I believe they have a couple of versions of that cap. I've ordered a number of items from them, particularly the sailor shirts, and everything's first-rate. Prices are great, too.

I hesitate to say this as I am not a fan of Goren Bros hats but I picked up a nice flat cap on sale for $20 (50% off) They probably have a location in Montreal and worth a visit. They had a decent selection of caps; tweed, wool etc on sale from 30% to 50% off two weeks ago. If nothing else it is an opportunity to try on multiple caps to get a sense of what you like and what looks good. The lady that served me was very patient and very helpful.
There are lots of good caps; flat and newsboys both here on the Vendor tab and on Etsy.

Thanks Daniel Jones...

Yeah, I've only heard good things about Henri Henri. Figured it would be a good place to start. Most people I've asked have said goto a hat store (or even a department store's hat section) and try different sizes and styles on to see what I like. I'll keep ya'll up to date...

I would not make a special trip to Goren Bros but if you are in the area by all means stop in. I was in their Seattle store and they had a wonderful selection of odds and ends in the cap department.....one of's at great sale pricing.
