A new cap from England. This one is rounder on top and has a longer peak than a traditional flat cap. The peak snaps to the crown. and the top of the crown has a little padding to stiffen it. There are no darts on the back. It is a little different, but I think I like it.

Nice one JHE888. You make the flat tops work.
Good looking fabric too.

And +3 on the brim.

Here's my new cap by Barry Simonds:

It's a copy of a vintage Russian cap. I like the way that you can wear the front up ...

... or forward ...

...depending on your mood. It has a very heavy lining to help it keep that shape. I'm sure Barry can tell us the technical side of the construction.

Best part of all, it's made from very heavy old Bedford Cord ...

... that used to be a pair of trousers. When they wore out (after about twelve years of service) I thought I'd put the remains to good use.

& here's the cap that Barry copied for me:

Beautiful, TwoTypes!! Looks fantastic in every orientation. It's almost the exact cut of the crazy-patterned one I just made, but outcooled by a mile. Beautiful work as usual, Barry!!

Well made Damian. That fabric is a mind bender. I checked out your online shop, you have some really nice stuff on there.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback! Sean had sent me his vintage Russian style cap to copy along with the material from which to make the cap from. The Bedford cord fabric is very similar to corduroy but heavier and feels more like worsted wool rather than a soft cotton. The weight of the fabric alone plays a big role in shape holding for this type of cap. Like the original I lined the cap with jute and added a full leather sweat band. The weight of this cap allows the top portion to sit aloft the peak without any use of snap closures. Thanks again, Sean! You wear that cap well!

This is a Sterkowski Biker's Cap. Would it be just too odd to wear one of these while not riding a panhead? I am taken with it, but I am probably already thought to be peculiar for regularly wearing a hat (including even a beret from time to time) and I would not care to move from "slightly odd" to "weirdo."

GO FOR IT!!! Those are seriously cool looking caps. And if you're self concious about looking too "biker", wear it with something besides a leather jacket, the average Joe won't make the connection.
I have a tan one very similar to that, made by B-wear, and several people have asked me if it is an old milkman's hat.

I fully agree with Dale, jhe - if you like it enough to wear it, it will suit you. I've looked at those Sterkowski caps and I like them as well. Plus they're not so pricey that it would kill you if it didn't feel right to wear it. I'd say full steam ahead!

The excellent vintage fashion blogger Arnaud Bauville of 'French Can-Can' just posted a lovely piece about the newsboy cap I made him out of 100-year-old patched Japanese fabric.

You can read it here.
