The Bowler or Derby Hat

Thanks, Steve! Also for the dating and the encouragement regarding the dents.
I'm quite relaxed, too: Some steaming and brushing is good for the felt anyway.
And if it is smoothed a bit in addition - fine!

Not from the emperor but new for me:
Hückel "Elastic" Melone/Derby - as we have seen from Steve and others here often. Any Dating? 30s?
Condition of this one is ok, unfortunately already before and then a little more dented by the transport.
But the flexible stiff felt - this is completely new to me - will be able to compensate the marks.
The hat has not yet been treated properly with steam and brush: please forgive me.

The sweat is also quite well intact and above all still supple.

The real reason for my purchase is the fantastic green liner,
which is glued and not sewn in - usual for stiff felts?

The label...

And here is an interesting detail behind the leather at the front:
A wavy piece of felt (black) with plain felt (white) over it - sewn in.
Reminds me of a mixture of cork strips and the intermediate piece at the Borsalinos.
Is this typical for the "Elastic"?

I see only one thing wrong with this one... it's the wrong size! 60cm

Matt's (@Mean Eyed Matt) Elastic Hückel drew me to dig out my Flexible Hückel.
As can be seen from the label, they're probably more or less the same era, 1920s/1930s. The triangular art deco logo on the sweat certainly puts it in that time frame.
The liner on mine isn't as colourful as Matt's, but typical of that age.
I wonder what the difference was between an Elastic and a Flexible Hückel?

Yes, we do have a certain obligation to keep the hat world in balance! Keep me in mind if you find another nice sample in my size. Your Huckel looks very smart, Steve.

Randy, it's not a need, it's a duty :)

Thanks, Randy. Sadly, it's not my size either. Far too small. Probably too small for anyone on the FL.
However, it's a nice piece in my collection.

Fellow lounger Randy @Rmccamey found this Mallory bowler, but it didn't fit him. He was very kind and generous to send it to me. Even though in theory this would be a size too large for me, it actually fits me like a custom. Wonderful bowler hat.
Mallory cravanette bowler in a size 7 1/8 (57), unlined, with the brim at 5cm and the crown at approx. 12cm. It weighs 131 grams. Thanks Randy!

I seem to have missed this one. That's a really nice find, Steve. If I'm seeing this correctly it's a size 4 1/4, which should be about a size 55. Close but not close enough.

That is a very nice Mallory Bowler, Stefan. Sometimes sizes can be out a few points. It's always nice though when the wrong size fits anyway :) Congrats

Nice looking Derby, Jack. Can we see the liner?

I must say too, you wear it better than Mr. Twain :)

The Christmas season is one of the times of the yr I like to wear a derby, for a Victorian Christmas feel. This is my Keith Bros. I couldn't find my Victorian print shirt to wear but I'll keep looking before the season is over.

That's a different look for you, Jack. You rock that bowler though.
