Second Borsalino with flaws or defects that need work to be worn
13yfgo2.jpg

Borsalino Qualità Extra Extra Superiore, color is "M. Volga", the ribbon is "Asfalto" , sold in Milano.
The ribbon and bow are consumed. Do not ask me why because I have no answer
2ckjmc.jpg

For proportions they are: brim at 5,5 cm. crown at 11 cm and the ribbon is 4 cm.
288r1qs.jpg

This is a true 6 1/2 and have the colors of a "Borsalino family" of felts that were all starting with M. plus the name of the color, very similar each others
wgz5fs.jpg

Its destination is Netherlands in Penumbra Hats atelier to be restored
Nice liner. Great lines.

Should not be that hard to get it back to glory. The hathered felt looks great and that liner just leaps out at you.

We share with Stefan a love on the Borsalino mistery about making, brands and the Borsalino not "Borsalino branded"
a47nyv.jpg

This is a homburg in deep brown with the matching ribbon and brim trimmed in the same color
2rpuzut.jpg

The measures are classic: 6 cm. the brim and 12 cm the crown.
xxbiw.jpg

The hat seems to be very old for its sweatband that is 5 cm .
It is possible that it was done immediately after the war.
14blssg.jpg

Qualità Extra Superiore, it does not have the name of the store on the swetband and the paper label becomes a mystery because the name Borsalino is missing.
2yweu8j.jpg

The words on the label in paper are extremely strange and I can not decipher the name of the color. It looks like a sample and comes together with others of very small size from Ghiffa the homeland of Panizza.
mvnj4m.jpg

The hat is in very good shape, no moths or failure, only the sweatband is dry and at one point the basting has been released. The size is 5. The hat is very elegant for the continuous shades.
Sorry, but this Borsalino is just keep by Stefan for our next exchange
I do feel priviliged that so many great hats in my small size are out there. This one is exquisite and an interesting piece to boot.

I'll never be able to top my last find, however I have a nice group of 3 hats to share, which happened to all once belong to the same gentleman.

A woman's husband passed away. Among the items her husband had were these 3 hats that belonged to his father. Many people owned a hat in those days, however I'd imagine not everyone could afford multiple Borsalinos. I am honored to be able to wear them. His initial pins are tacked on to the sweatbands (GZ).

Interestingly enough, two of the hats are from the same store. One a Borsalino, and the other a GB Borsalino. The GB is very interesting to me. Among its features is a really great pebbled textured sweatband.

O my. My jaw dropped to the floor so fast that I'll be picking up bits and pieces of it for weeks to come. These truly are awesome. We want to see more of them for sure and the labels are of special interest.

Tonio, Congrats on the great find! All 3 are fantastic! The GB Borsalino is beyond. Does the first Borsalino have the separate size stamp? Does the Stiff Felt have the celled paper label?

Hello thanks all for the compliments. I was able to snap a photo of the tag on the stiff felt. The first one, the sweatband is very wide and the liner extends pretty far down to check safetly. I feel it is too risky to peel the GB sweat back.

Here is the stiff felt. Handwritten size 6, however has a tag 7-1/4 sticker on the sweatband.

Thanks for posting this. I can completely understand your apprehension to muck about with hats of this age.

Borsalino Traveller in green. Size 60 cm. It is a modern Borsalino, around nineties
2eehsg9.jpg

The felt is mix of fur and woll and is very soft, the surface has a gentle touch with some short hair
23jn8gj.jpg

It was the Borsalino to travel, so you can crush as you want. Not my opinion, neither my aim:rolleyes:
The best is to give it a shape and then let it "rest"
11t0q4i.jpg

Proportions are: Stitched brim at 6.5 cm. crown at 11 cm. and the contrasting ribbon is 3 cm.
xfbuxg.jpg

Unlined with sweatband made of grosgrain as in the tradition of this type of Borsalino
It arrived used in good-excellent conditions

I came across a Czech Forbes article (from 2016) on Tonak and it contained this interesting comment (translated from Czech).

"We sell 90% of our products (semi-finished products) abroad, but our customers do not know us. And that has to be changed, "thinks Tělecký, whose dream is to build a similar firm from Tonak as the Italian Borsalino. "Their quality is comparable to ours, just because they order some headgear from us. And the advantage is that everyone knows them in Italy. "

It's an interesting article (you can use Google Translate).

Lovely hat, Daniele. We won't hold its young age against it!
