The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Borsalino fu Lazzaro "Savoy" in Uranio colour. Felted edged brim at 6cm and crown 10cm at the pinch. Incredible felt. Not really old (late sixties is my guess), but the model is older. It was listed on the bay and was withdrawn. I contacted the seller and it was still available. I think I got it at a steal.

Nice.
From the pic posted in the WHAYWT thread, I thought it was an older one. Has a great shape to it.

Echter Borsalino "Gulaela" Export Qualität, French Point Size 6 1/2, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 3/8 inches probably later 1950s. The overall condition is excellence. The medium weight "Pomice/Pumice" color felt is fantastic. It easily dry creases and has an fine hand. I didn't take a photo of the paper label but it doesn't have the vertical "Borsalino" on the left side. "Export Qualität" was added around the mid to later 1950s and "Echter Borsalino" was dropped in the early 1960s. "Export Qualität" remained in use until the mid 1980s but eventually fell out of use after the original Borsalino factory was closed and the company was sold.

Borsalino Homburg in grey. CASTORO (Beaver). This was owned by a titled gentleman of Turin.
Probably the best quality hat I have handled. Thought I would keep the moths out by storing it in this case from Trieste and to keep it all Italian.

I did buy a brown one with the same lining style. Any idea about dating it?

Hello chaps, just thought i'd post some pics of this Borso Homburg i acquired a few weeks ago, i showed it to Stefan to get his opinion about it, we concluded its probably !930/20s, possibly earlier.
Steve has a Echet Borso with the same size tag on it which dates to 1929, so this hat could possibly be from that decade?.
It was never intended for export but was made for the Italian market and retailed by
E. Croci, Via Dante-7 Milano.
Unfortunately its to small for me, although its a size 4 1/2/56 which is my size, it has most probably shrunk over the years and now fits more like a 54/55.
If anyone is interested in it, please let me no, otherwise will go on ebay.
Here are some Pix of hat.

Cheers
Mike

Mike, It's really fantastic! It's an old one based on the paper label format with the cells and written size. Sorry about it being too small.

I bought this Borsalino at a local flea market. The inside lining has a bit of black mold on it, but I was told that it could be gotten out with carpet-cleaning solution (if anyone knows of a better solution, please let me know). One thing to take note of is that shortly after I took these photos, I was able to un-dent the crown in several places (most notably the front), so it doesn't look as dented as in the photos anymore.

What are everyone's thoughts on it? Does anyone have an estimate of when it was made? And (taking into account that I was able to un-dent it), what are your thoughts on its condition? What are your thoughts on its overall quality?

Hello, thought I'd share some Borsalino artifacts I'm waiting on.

5 cards dating to the early 1900s. The lower 3 I believe may have been affixed to a hat ribbon or brim to advertise the brand.

Giuseppe Borsalino & Fratello token. Perhaps an ID of sorts? Any guesses?

That token almost looks like it was punched through with a steel core military rifle round....

Very cool items all around.

It's a nice hat - most likely 1950s. The Borsalino manufacturing tag behind the sweatband is the most reliable tool for dating the brand.

Be careful cleaning the liner - it is silk. I don't remember seeing this liner/tip imprint with a paper protector in place. You can remove the remaining shards with a tweezer... again, carefully. The liner can be removed from the hat for cleaning. It was originally tacked in place with a running stitch, but if the hat has been cleaned earlier in its life, the liner might be held in place with small pieces of tape.
