The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

I just bought this on eBay. The seller knew nothing about it I know just about the same. It doesn't look very old, but I'm not up on my Borsalinos. I know the price was cheap and 7 5/8 hats are hard to find. Any help with what it is?

The lack of a liner makes me think it was a summer hat? The leather sweat means it wasn't a roll-up. I'm also concerned with the brim as the photos show it down front and back, but I'm hoping someone just popped the snap brim down. I'm posting this same info on the eBay thread, but I thought I'd ask the experts here too.

Do you have a photo of Borsalino logo on the sweatband? I ask because it might be Bollman Borsalino. Where did you find it?

I’m thinking you might be in for a nice surprise DH. Be well. Bowen

There were only a couple of low quality photos and with the low buy it now price I didn't dare wait to ask the seller questions. I'll post photos when it arrives. Thank you for your help.
It looks really promising DH. It may be of the earlier vintage, you never know with auctions. Most sellers have no clue. I'm eagerly awaiting more info on this one.

I have been remiss in posting my new Borsalino from Stefan. He posted it here a while back but here is my take on this beauty. Borsalino "Angora" Gorascu in the color of Misto Grigio. The finish on this hat is superb, the felt is so soft it melts like butter. The hat crease is organic, it does what it wants. Originally, Stefan thought this may be a hat from the 1930s. I will have to review the posts as to dating from the mfg tag on Borsalinos. It slso may be from the mid 1950s. The store it was sold from in Chicago has been a haberdasher since the 1850s. They closed for good in 1979.

That looks simply stunning......oh to only be a 7 1/4 rather than the melon head I am......:( As an aside a LOT of fine hats in sizes 7 through 7 1/4 and even 7 3/8 have been turning up on the Bay lately......reasonable prices even......

Man, look at that thing shine!
When I first posted it I thought it was older, but Anthony (moontheloon) pointed out to me that the OPS sticker it carries was only in use for a few years in the early fifties. That fitted better with the age of the other one (the Savoy) too. Good to see him posting in some of the threads here again by the way..

You can always pay a visit to the Jivaros in South America. Well known for their head shrinking abilities. If you ask nicely they might even leave it attached to the rest of your body!:D

Been looking for a Borso that fits nicely. The search is off. Needs a little work but overall she’s in beautiful shape. Fits like a 7 3/8 which I needed. Palladio grey with thin ribbon, trolley, and Labrador pin. My new favorite. View attachment 98252 View attachment 98248 View attachment 98250 View attachment 98251
That is a winner for sure. But I'm afraid the search is not off, but may have only just begun: for the next one (and the one after that and the one after that etc, etc).

I know of the O.P.S. dating from the Hatted Professor's website. I always like a hat that is older than I am. I'm old as dirt so I'll take 1950-53 anyday!
