The Black Hat Brigade

Your brim is wider and the crown is slightly taller. I just came back in from knocking out enough dust to choke a horse. :eusa_doh: Man that thing was dusty!
I also rebashed it to take advantage of the higher crown look with more of a rake. It looks like a different hat. I like it even better now. I'll get some pictures up after TAPS is over. :p

Regards,

J

I am going to have to take some new pictures but I didn't want to disappoint. Here is a side view after dusting the little fella off.

The back of the hat really has quite a curl. When I got it the brim was up all around. That had to change. ;) The picture of the front makes the block look crooked but it is the angle of the shot.
I think I'll take it for a spin tomorrow.

Regards to all,

J

This is probably the nicest looking black fedora I've seen! :eusa_clap

...I don't know why but black would probably be my least favorite "standard" (non-lavender, yellow, or pink) :D color for a hat?!

Nice a pre 1968 Resistol dress hat. I have one nearly the same. Is yours a Kitten Finish?

Regards,

J

Tough guys don't like to say "kitten" finish. I like to think of it another way.:) oh, by the way, is that black Stetson of yours a clear Nutria???

I'm resurrecting this old thread to say that I am currently wearing a burnt orange dress shirt, a gold and blue tie, olive-brown dress slacks, brown dress shoes, a brown belt (all earth tones!) and to top it off, my black Borsalino Travel Light... and it looks fine.

There are colors gray won't go with and there are colors brown won't go with, but black is universal. The absence of light makes it so that a color clash can't actually occur.

I'm having a hard time thinking of any.

I have a shirt that can be best compared to the color of circus peanuts. The only thing I can think of that would possibly go with it is a beanie hat with a propeller on top :)

Grays are hard to match with other grays. You have green-grays, which look ghastly with blue-grays, then you have grays that are strictly a mix of black and white, those go with most things, but don't look good with other grays.

I was stunned one time, when I bought a gray coat, to find that there were a number of clothing items I had that didn't look to well with it. The coat has a moderate greenish cast to it, so forget all the blues and purples.

I've seen fedoras that were grayish tan, or maybe tannish gray. Have to watch what you wear, even with those.

If going for gray, best to get one without any coloration in it. I have a light gray hat and it goes with most of my stuff, but, light as it is, it is a combo of white and black, I believe.

yeah, i never called "Indiana", but even in just a dak gray fedora with my black top coat i have gotten the Nazi Toht comment several times...

"You look like a Nazi...."

"You look like the bad guy from Raiders..."

"Do you carry your own hanger, too?"

The black hat has a stigma. One of the reasons the early hackers adopted it... it's BAAAD.

I owe Art my measruements, but I am getting him to build me a black fed...

Black is always in style

Forget the juvenile comments of those who will poke fun at anything they do not understand. Trust me there are those that make a lifetime of trying to bring others down to their level. I have been wearing black hats of all kinds for as long as I can remember. I have been wearing a Black Gold Resistol since the 80's, my new favorite is a black Borso. Lets face it black never clashes with any color, because it is all colors. "Scientifically black is not a hue (color); a black object absorbs all the colors of the visible spectrum and reflects none of them"

I like black fedoras in theory, but right now the look is just a bit too fraught--due to this man's notoriety:

Jack Abramoff

So I'm going to give the black hat a pass for a while until he fades from the public memory. At least the black hat with black ribbon. I might consider a contrast ribbon.

Size?

Is it just me or is that hat on Abramoff a little small?
It looks like it's perched on the very top of his head!

BTW..Black Fedoras are fine with me, just not during the summer.

Bud -- What a nice collection! They are all cool, but, most of all, I love that Borso and, of course, the cowboy hat.

Karol, black has always been a favorite of mine. Black lends itself as well as its wearer or user legitimacy. Think about its uses, whether it is a "little black dress", " black tie affair", "in the black" or "black ink pen". Black has always been a color that demands respect.

As to not wearing something/anything because of another's actions, if that was followed, where would we be as a culture?
