I do not recall posting this hat recently, but it fits the bill.

Different hat, same dimensions with a fray charcoal ribbon for comparison.

What's not to like? Ticks all the boxes for me. I used to think I didn't like black hats. And while it is true I don't wear them as often, I find I have an awful lot of them in the collection.

I'm a fan of subtle contrasting differences is textures against each other rather than bold contrasting colors.
I know you are Jack and i agree fully. Many or most of your hats have that commonality and that’s why i enjoy seeing them. When i see other hats similar i always think “that’s a Jack hat”.
I always say”Classy ain’t fussy and simple is smooth”.

Working on my third black Borsalino refurb. I was holding off on this and other conversions for a while until I get a few more hat tools that I ordered some time back. Haven't received them yet so I'll just go ahead with what I have and try and finish this one up. I took this hat apart and blocked it up to a 7 1/4 to fit me. This one will have a matching 3/8 thin ribbon with an OR style bow, something similar to the one that Mike Mazurki wore in, "Murder My Sweet"...

Reblocked and ready to go...

A black Fedora, to me, is no different to any other colour choice, the hat and it's colour are just one of the accoutrements that I wear to compliment whatever else I'm wearing. The Fedora does lend itself to a variety of colours, whereas styles like the Bowler/Derby and the Homburg are traditionally black, although I have seen a rather good looking grey Bowler.

My shoes are a riot of colours but my hats are, by and large, rather conservative. Black can set of formal and casual, as seen here. Black Fedoras, I love them. Has anyone got a white Fedora? Now that I would love to see.
The same hat worn both formal and casual.

Very nice, GHT. And agreed: black is a colour like any other and has the advantage it can go with anything.

Adding another of my conversions to the mix of black fedoras...

Bradford "Beaver 30" Western. It was originally a size 7 Western that I blocked up to a 7 1/4. It now sports a 2 5/8 brim with a straight sided open crown height of 5 3/4. It's creased to my preferred teardrop, 4 3/4 at the pinch with a rake sloping to 4 inches in the back. The crown has a tight pinch and also has a matching black 1 1/2 ribbon with the bow work having a slight upswoop. Unfortunately, my conversion projects will have to be put on hold for the next several weeks to give my back time to heal from its latest flare up episode. I'm hoping that the prescription my pain management doctors gave me will make my recovery time less than that. Anyway, enough of me complaining about my back....

Though not a fedora...this is a black Beaver Brand Western that I sized up and rebuilt, complete with new ribbon work and brim binding
