2 1930's Stetsons

These were two of my favorite acquisitions of the year - Playboy Air Light and Standard Quality:

Emerson long-hair

This 30s-40s Emerson would have been my favorite, hands-down, but it was just a little too small:

Odd how earlier in the year(and before) very few cared for Velours and Longhairs and now they are dominating the Best of 2009 and the prices are escalating...[huh]

I think I was one of the first to post any of this type back when I was "Wildroot". I have three... two are early 30s and one isn't.

Man, that flack that I'd get when I posted those hats... Not many liked them but, seems I started something :D

MayserWegener's hats were both pre-WWII Hückels. Fritz Hückel in W. Germany and Tonak and Peschel kept making Seal Velours for some time.

The gray Superior is from 1938-45 because it is marked "Made In Germany" so made during German occupation. The Sigma Seal Velour is slightly earlier and is marked "Made in Czecho Slovakia". Both hats were made at the Nový Jičín Hückel factory (now TONAK).

Hückel was nationalized as TONAK after the WWII. Fritz Hückel started a factory in Weilheim, Bavaria (Hückel Hutfabrik Weilheim). He had rights to the Hückel brand name for Germany and used Fritz Hückel Hutmacher outside Germany. TONAK got the Hückel name rights outside of Germany in the mid 50s.

The Zephyr Seal Velour finish that came out of Weilheim is not the same as what came out of Hückel Nový Jičín. It doesn't have the same slick, shinny super pliabel characteristics. I don't have any post WWII Seal Velours out of Nový Jičín (TONAK). I would like to see pictures of Marc's 50s Hückel. I believe he also has a TONAK branded Seal Velour.

My current avatar is a late 30s Hückel.

More Hückel info at.
