Wow that is a grand pocket. Is that his handkerchief in it or actually a tablecloth?

It has a got smart but devil-may-care element about it, helped by Clark Gable, naturally.

It looks like something more common on an overcoat or outdoor jacket. But you could probably find a vintage one, keeping your eye out.
Might even something you could get someone to customize for you.

What are your thoughts?

This jacket was made bespoke for Clark Gable by L.A.'s finest tailors of that era: Eddie Schmidt, Inc.

From around 1930 to the early '40s, practically all of Gable's suits, sportcoats, and film costumes --including the wonderful suit he wore in It Happened One Night, were custom made by Eddie Schmidt, Inc.

Vintage clothes by Eddie Schmidt are as rare as hen's teeth.

The skirt pockets on that jacket are "bellows" style.
I guess the breast pocket is just in keeping, rather than being a discrete feature.

The Bellows breast pocket does seem somewhat ungainly, though.
Box pleat pockets are my favourite on Tweeds and Sport coats- stylish
but also allowing some practical function of volume.

I've never seen it done like that before. This is how it's usually done:

The bellowed breast pocket creates a futuristic, floating effect. Kind of a "modern" touch for the "modern age" (well, at least their modern age.)

Blame the Italian tailors that Eddie Schmidt "imported" to work at his shop. They were the ones who came up with the innovations.

(It was the same with James Oviatt -- his Italian 'master tailor' invented all sorts of details that Oviatt would then patent and promote.)

I know IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT was cited above, but I wanted to point out that the still in the original post is actually from that movie, which I was lucky enough to see on Sunday.

Gable wears that suit in about 90% of the picture.

I saw luckily movie "It happened one night" from tv. It shows that Clarks suit very much. Found this link from youtube. Whole movie to those who has the time. It happened one night

Great suit with fabulous backside... you'll have to see the movie. Matt, this suit would fit to your offerings easily.

This is an odd jacket modeled in what is called the Danish style. Not only is the breast pocket bellowed, it is flapped and buttoned, as well. I like the look but am concerned about the lack of possibility for a pocket square. Perhaps some sort of lapel pin could substitute.
