The Background

I feel strange standing outside my home and taking a picture of myself! Generally I try to get close to an indoor window that has the best light. Sometimes it's my first floor bathroom (sorry Nick, although not as often these days), living room or my daughters playroom. Often times the background is boring but not cluttered (usually).
I do notice backgrounds but don't think much of them unless something really stands out (which is almost never the case). I wish I had a giant plain white wall in a room with great light but my wife is a painter and my daughter is well...an 8 year old, so that ain't happening. For me it's all about the light:

All I see are
Those fine jackets. [emoji6]

I always try to consider the background when taking a fit pic, can't say I'm very imaginative though as most seem to be by the front door, which works well imo. I don't take much indoors as my lighting is crap for photography.
Do I look at others backgrounds, yes I think I do, but I don't take much notice. I think my favourite jacket pics are ones where the garment is in sharp focus but the background isn't, but that's just me.
Funny thing is when I look at old family photos these days I find what's in the background far more interesting, the person well you remembered them, but the background is quite often forgotten history.

I don’t usually focus on the background, but when I do it is for information to use in an extortion scheme.

I recognise sellers from Ebay or Etsy by the pictures only that sometimes are posted online so yes, I remember brackgrounds, colours, floors, wood, desks...you name it.

When looking at someone's photo, I check out everything. I tend to notice what is in the background.

When posting pics I try not to have anything visible in the background.

Interesting question. I usually don't ponder backgrounds too much unless it's something spectacular, eye grabbing or unusual. I certainly don't judge folks though... I came from rather humble beginnings and as my daddy used to say...

"It ain't where you start out that counts..... but where you end up.

I do look at backgrounds, but being a rather non judgmental person I never comment on that.
What I have noticed is that when posters try to show themselves doing something natural when it is obviously a photo shoot, i.e Walking along a path, they never look at the camera but somehow these photo's always come out looking like a posed catalogue shot. But then, when caught naturally and unaware of a camera present the picture looks natural.
In many fashion magazines models showing high end clothing often pose with derelict buildings in the background.

I agree about the catalogue pose thing, I'm possible the worst for it. I often find the first pic I take to be the best actually, when I start trying to be natural it all goes to pot.
It all provides immense amusement for my mates though I must say :)

It's the cute red houses, isn't it?
My ancestors left Sweden only to end up in Illinois...it took the second generation to wise-up and move to California.

I always look at the background, trying to find ghost apparition or extra terrestrial accidentally caught on camera... and I must say I saw some here, but I don't want to tell on which photos I saw them, better that way I guess...:D

I wish I have an invisible drone that can take pictures of me outside when I ride my bike or doing groceries in my jacket, don't have the courage nor ego to take my picture in public by selfie ... I'm totally not instagram hero material:(

No offence, but if you start seeing lots of these ghosts and E.Ts in the background of photos, you might want to write your findings here: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/does-wearing-leather-jacket-affects-our-health.94523/

Maybe them tannery chemical fumes are too much for you? ;)

Nothing wrong with people believing in something even though it is not scientifically proven to exist, as long as these beliefs don't lead to harm for anyone. After all two billion people in the world believe the stories in a certain fantasy book really happened and noone bats an eye. :D

Still I think there is a difference in believing that something has happened which cannot be proven and actually starting to see things that other people don’t see! [emoji3]
