Hair conditioner also works well for shaving, as it softens the hair. You can get a nice close shave using conditioner!

I used to use a Venus Divine razor, but I have now switched to a Braun electric shaver. As LizzieMaine said about hers, it's not the closest shave in the world. It's all in an effort to save water, though - level 5 water restrictions are in place now because of our drought.

I use Shick disposables. (they were the only ones I could find that are made in the USA)
...and I am very happy with them.

I noticed they don't get the rust spots on the blades as fast as some of the other razors I have used in the past, and I don't get nicks like with the others.

Some tips I have read about razors is to always change the blade/razor every three shaves to avoid a dull blade.
but...I have also read to shave in the direction on the hair growth. From my persoanl experience this was a bad idea. lol

I like the Intuition razors...the refills are expensive and they don't seem to last too long with every couple of days shaving, but I still like them. I do tend to keep up with it more that way, instead of the separate gel/lotion and razor. I did try the Veet stuff once, and I loved the results, but it broke my legs out something horrible - looked like I rolled around in poison ivy and it hurt so bad! I am terrible at remembering to lotion up after I get out of the shower...something I'm trying to work on!

I use a Suave cocoa butter body wash for my legs and underarms, it works great, and I find if I rub more on while Im in the shower, after I shave, I dot get any type of razor burn. Also I blot my legs dry after shave, not rub and that helps tons too :)

Any tips for the knees, thats where I get all my knicks

I use Bic Soleil disposables. They are really great, and very good for the bikini area. On the bikini area I use L'Occitane shower oil, and everywhere else I use Cholesterol conditioner.

I only shave my armpits maybe 2x a month, maybe more if it's hotter. I don't often wear anything where you can see them, plus the hair grows super slowly. I just don't care enough! I don't shave my legs very often either. Although I have pale legs and brown hair, it's very fine so it's not too noticeable, especially when I'm wearing stockings.

You sound like me in the winter months. My skin gets so dry I hate to put a razor near them.

I'm a complete cheapskate, I use disposible razors and regular dove soap on my legs. When I use the soap I work up a very good lather that is like a very light foam so by spending a little more time doing that I save and don't have to buy any type of creams. I shave nearly everyday and never have any problems with nics or cuts and very rarely have the red shaving bumps.

I have found out though that you should keep your razors out of the shower when you are not using them, it prolongs the life of them. I just tap off the razor and set it on the counter to dry.

OK. Normally I wouldn't mention it, but since there is a whole thread devoted to it, I have to thank God I'm Asian. I shave my legs about once a year (when summer starts), and I've never had to shave my underarms. For that reason, I just use disposables, because the razor gets rusty long before I need it again. I didn't know what a bikini line was until I was 16. I thought it was a tan line. :D

Sorry to rub it in, but it's the one good thing I've gotten out of this deal. It's a trade off, I guess for the world's most oily, acne-prone skin. lol

i shave when i remember to, but when i do i like to use the bic soleil as well. i've also found that mens shaving cream(especially the more generic brands) tends to be cheaper and come in bigger sizes, plus the bf and i can share since it doesn't smell all fruity.

i sometimes go weeks without in winter, thats what opaque tights are for!

Mens disposable razors are an awful lot better than womens ones. And hair conditioner is an awful lot better than specialised shaving gels. That's what I've found.

I used to wax, but now I have a boyfriend I hate him feeling my pointy legs and other places

Does no-one use a pumice stone then?

there's an Etsy store called Gudonya, they make a fantastic shave bar called Baby Legs. It's a handmade soap formulated with clay and it is superb... really nice shave, and it doesn't gunk up the razor. I absolutely swear by the stuff... won't use shave gel ever again!

I use a Braun Silk-Epil to remove as much as I can. The first time was kind of painful, but touching up every few days barely hurts at all.

Shaving legs?

Since razors were decently primitive in the 20s, 30s, 40s... what did most women use to shave their legs? I'm also curious on what you gals use. Razors don't do me justice anymore, and I feel like I'm only smooth for a day or two max.
