Was the "dubious guy in a black 911 Turbo" based on a real 80s cliche?

Don’t know about the guy but that oversized bar counter at the tail certainly was.
Edward, I bet the Jaguar XJ220 would give it some competition hahaMy Dad owned a 911 for a few years - I think it was a 76. Nice motor, lovely quality, but yeah.... huge spoiler. I suppose it was just part of the style back then, though I doubt many of them ever got driven fast enough for it to serve any practical purpose.

Down here deep in the southwest corner of the continental United States (i.e., southern California) those body kits were popular until the owners realized they did nothing to improve the car's performance, but drove fuel costs higher because it took so much more gasoline to haul all of that extra weight around.Yeah, Porsche history says, the 911 Turbo "body kit" was enormous popular around Carrera drivers.
Nice, the luxury villains carLikely.... though TBH Jags that modern never did it for me. The one I really fancied was the *original* S Type - basically a MKII with a slightly elongated rear end and longer wheelbase. Known to handle better at speed than the II; in 60s London they were considered the ultimate getaway car.
