Perhaps influenced by the popular Alpine hats? A more urban Tyrolean? Pure speculation by the way, I still have quite a lot to learn about hats despite my interest and growing collection.

I don't think so these tyroleans never were common and only worn in the south of Germany. The only main difference I know between American and German hats in the 30s is that many German hats were quite tapered, but also had a high crown and a wide brim.
