In the last days, I recognized, that my nice dark ocean-blue storebrand-quilted jacket really seems to be the most similar to the "Heritage Liddesdale"-jacket. It's mainly the same more roundish cut, and shorter than the regular Liddesdale-modell, too.

What I like about the Barbour International is that they've retained the diagonal chest pocket on the left - something Belstaff have long since abandoned.

Halfway tempted by the Steve MacQueen International. While I don't much care for the flag-lining, it is at least not seen when the jacket is worn. The "Americam Team" patch on the front would have to go, though. In reality, though, while I'vve owned and been pleased with Barbour jackets in the past, I think nowadays I'd go with something from Speedwear https://www.speedwear.co.uk/ , where you can have a jacket that's the equal of the Barbour plus has the pockets for CE armour for half the price....

I have a book which shows two Belstaff Trialmaster jackets from the 1960s. One has the tilted pocket, the other squared up. So you're right it definitely wasn't a recent, fashion decision by Belstaff.

Even here in the UK, tbh, the prices of a new Barbour International or Belstaff look crazy. Last I looked the Belstaff was £100 more expensive than the Barbour, but the latter was creeping up in price as they became fashionable the other year. I'm also suspicious of where it's all gonig for them after they started putting out so many cheap-nylon versions of the International...

Thanks Edward. I agree, at that price I wouldn't be out much $$ if it's mediocre. I don't motorcycle so I don't need anything too serious. Shipped to Canada it would around $130, whereas an International would be $900...

I love a Barbour and own several, including an original International in olive wax cotton, complete with warm pile liner. I've had many over the years, but find the brand has more recently gone in a direction I don't want to follow - I suspect the Barbours I already own will last me out though!

I really wouldn't wonder, if in the next years even storebrand-wax jackets would appear in our german clothing-chain stores in the streets! The Barbour-like poly-fibre quilted-jackets are for sure low-price stuff, often appearing in the seasonal fashion-sortiments. And the wax-jackets would probably appear in the premium storebrand-line.
