Thank you for this perspective, Bill. You’re absolutely right and I’m embarrassed by my initial reaction.
I’m not trying to disparage anyone. Just trying to point out it’s free and those who manage the site do so for our enjoyment. So let’s enjoy the site while appreciating those who work behind the scenes.

I didn’t take it as a recrimination. It just made me step back and see it in a new light. Honestly, I appreciated the perspective. We all need someone, often a spouse, to figuratively hit us upside the head and assist with some introspection.

So, I am wondering... some of you are saying that ads are block content. Are you using a phone to access the site? Because I only use my desktop to do anything on the Internet and I am not having any ads blocking anything. I use a phone only to text and call people. So, I am wondering if this ad problem is only for you guys who use phones?

I have serious concerns with your new web partner if they (and TFL management) did not go through a serious QA routine on a test IP before implementing these changes in production mode. There are plenty of us here who would be happy to help you beta test before you go into production with such changes.

Totally understand where you're coming from on this. It's one of those frustrating things that on a technical level which is beyond me works in an underlying way that TFL wouldn't be aware of until it goes into action. The management are working on this to get it down to a reasonable level, the target being to get ads to stop appearing in the middle of posts or obscuring content. If we can get it there, that would be a happy medium. Bear with us, it unfortunately might just take a week or two as alas it isn't as simple as opening a settings menu and putting it together.

Why could this not be foreseen Edward? I'm sure that advertisers don't want to lose an audience anymore than The Lounge does. I could never get so annoyed that I flounce out but the frustration of having adverts right in the centre of the screen when I am reading a post gets to the point of tourettes. I just give up and log off, however, Lounge addiction is one hell of a habit to break, can we not get back to what was?

I only use a laptop (no data on phone, just phone and text) and for the first few days it was bad. Installed the ad blocker and now it is totally clear.

I’ve seen it on both my iPhone and my iPad.

That's a good point, if you do a random check, as I did, on half a dozen forums, covering a spectrum of subjects, none have the intrusive types of adverts that The Lounge is plagued with.

For what it's worth, my moobs (male boobs) are just not of a size to fit, no matter how cheap the bra is that keeps popping up so annoyingly.

Well there is two sites of the story for sure. I do understand that the platform providers need to generate some money. Hosting is not free of course. I just think it can backfire. For one you have the regular users that at least in part seem very annoyed and alienated. On the side you also have nee users you want to attract.
I have been working in open source projects for 15 years for free and you have users that give back and you have others that will never want to spend a penny or watch ads.
The problem with ads is that we mostly got used into disliking it. For instance in the old days when you videotaped a show or film you probably cut out the ads.
In my current project we have a forum as well. I put hundreds of hours a week programming with other people for free and also we maintain a forum for users for free. The costs for hosting is not high. Maybe $10-$15 a month. So we use as little ads as possible and it covers that costs plainly. There is an free open source forum software called Discourse we use that has individual user levels. If you are an engaded user you reach a higher trust level. The cool thing is that I can set up a level from which point there are no ads at all for users in a certain level. So in the end unregistered users have always ads, registered an logged in users have a few ads and very engaged users with lots of posts have no ads at all. You have to remember that a forum does not create content by itself it is created by the most engaded users. Not sure if it can be done in this forum. Just an idea.
