Tell me about Cervo. Are they all helmets?

Recently, I picked up a Cervo fedora (?), and honestly, it's not the best hat I've ever owned. Feels likeit was made out of cardboard with glue on it, rubbed across a sheeps back! Very stiff. Am I wrong or are these cheap? Is there a way to soften them? Or am I stuck with a helmet?
I am not familiar with Cervo so any experience is helpful... thanks for your time.

I was able to handle a Cervo at DelMonico's in New Haven. I found the felt to be very soft almost to soft the one I was handling was not holding its side dents very well. I liked the hat a little on the pricey side though.

I am finding this hat terribly hard, almost unbelievably so.

Greetings ejdhats,
With all due respect I think the Cervo hat you got was some how a clunker. Cervo makes one of the finest hats in the world and their fur felts are incredibly soft and I say that lightly. I have a hat shop here in Boston and there is nothing I look forward to more than to have a customer come in with a Borsalino, Cervo or Akubra because I know I will have a small place in heaven for the next 20-25 it will take me to re-block it.
Where on earth did you get this hard "helmet" Cervo hat? It sounds as if someone cooked it in an oven or something before they sold it to you? Your post actually gave me a chuckle, but to answer your question Cervo makes so damn nice hats, and they are far from cheap. I am interested in hearing more about it though.. that is a strange one.
Cervo makes the softest hats in the industry next to Borsalino. Like I said before I think you got a lemon from someone. You should send that phony back to where you got it - haha! ; )

Sometimes a "petrified" hat will soften up some with denatured alcohol.

I was just there, the wife was getting another hat (she's the REAL hat person). Jessen mentioned that there were a couple of forum members heaing over to his shop. Have fun.

I'll have to take my wife there as well Cliff. Was hoping to take her tomorrow, but she's out of town and I don't think will be back in time.

Wonder if I should take out a hammer to check out those Cervo hats? :D
