I had to read this twice. At my first glance I thought you wrote, "WHEN did Ma and Pa Kettle get so good-looking?"

dhermann1, I love that Twilight Zone episode with Elizabeth Montgomery - it's called "Two", and her costar is Charles Bronson. A classic!

And while it does depict a grim postwar future (it was shot at the then falling apart Hal Roach studio) the ending is, if anything, hopeful. Plus, it really shows off her acting chops, as she has virtually no dialog, apart from one Russian word.

Memories

Ah, the beautiful Elizabeth Montgomery. Her dad was Robert Montgomery, star of the hilarious Alfred Hitchcock comedy Mr. and Mrs. Smith. There was a song in the 80s called Elizabeth Montgomery's Face that my brother liked.
I had also never heard of Television Mom & Dad but I'm going to go out on a limb and pick Samantha's parents. :)

Growing up: The Cosby Show.

More recently, I'd say, the TV dad who most closely represented the dads in my neighborhood who didn't hesitate helping raise any neighborhood kids when any of us needed a little raising: Unequivocally...

(only, a little less like the cleaned-up TV show, and a little more like the comedy skit which it originated from in the film Kings of Comedy...)

Well, I don't know if any kids looked up to them, especially seeing as it's cancelled now, but I thought the show Everwood did a good job of portraying a wholesome family dynamic. I miss that show. :(

Besides Ward and June the Andersons of Father Knows Best are right up there. The only thing on today exhibiting longevity is Homer and Marge. And perhaps they are the parodies of today's parents that are closer to reality than any others.:) :eusa_doh:

Here's a question ... how similar were our favorite TV parents to our own parents?

.

The only couple on TV who ever reminded me of my parents in interaction was Batman and Wonder Woman on Justice League Unlimited.

One's a dark brooding antisocial cranky-pants who lives in a cave with an enormous computer! The other's fiercely idealistic and completely out of tune with modern Earth! They fight crime!lol

Although my "childhood years" were behind me when the show came on, John and Olivia Walton (as well as Grandma and Grandpa Walton) reminded me most of the type of family I had.

The older I get, the more I realize just how truly blessed I was to have the kind of family I had.

GREAT CHOICE, Big Man!!! I'll second that vote and your late-in-life realization!
