I know I'm not supposed to post live ebay stuff, but I need to illustrate a point: this shirt claims to be 50's



however the tag below the label looks to me like it was from an inkjet printer,
now apparently the use of this type of printer was pioneered in the fashion industry in the 50's, but that looks to me like a modern typeface.
Anybody know anything about when the USA garment regulators brought in regulations on these things or when they moved from a cloth to a paper base for the tags?

Not sure, but the label does look fairly modern.

It may be a repro, but based on the inkjet tag it is not 50's

The label is modern. This type of label began to be used widely in the late 70s. The upper label is passable, but the lower one is definitely a modern thing.

Things to look for in Hawaiian shirts that are giveaways - the seams should be a welt seam, stitched with straight stitches. Modern ones are most often overlock stitched.

The buttons on vintage Hawaiians are usually hand carved coconut shell or sea shell. Not plastic. Plastic would have been more expensive to get on the islands.

That shirt would probably be about $5 to $7 in the Goodwill.
