Bottom line is that there's no standard answer to the question of what temperature is suited to different jackets.... it will all depend on the individual tolrance to heat and humidity. I think I'd find Aus depressingly hot even in your "Winter".

Edward, is that an offer to come and walk my dogs in minus 6c in shorts and crocs?;)

Come down to Ballarat (Victoria) in winter Edward, I'm sure you wont find it depessingly hot here. Regular minus temps in the morning and a damp cold during the day. I spent my first 28 years in Leith, Scotland and I think the Ballarat winter is worse than the Edinburgh one in some respects.

Aahh Benny, your not far off, single, just turned 40, sadly, not cashed up...Im drinking crown lager and grange out of paper bags..I cut up the credit card after the last evil high heel wearer walked out the door...have spent the year eating 2 minute noodles watching Seinfeld re reruns saving and spending every red cent on said boots and jackets....haven't even worn them to the pub yet, ironically can't afford boots plus socialising ! the madness stops at Decembers end...then it's back go being a grown up and worrying about the future.....;) this is my year, then it's back to business...

Well mate good for you! Sounds like you've earned a good jacket splurge. We all need a sabbatical from the drudgery every now and then.

Ha, even in the morgue I won't be wearing either shorts or crocs. ;)

That sounds good... if ever I do visit Aus, I'll be making sure to go during our Summer. I fantasise about being rich enough to travel the globe, always staying ahead of the heat... ;)

No, seriously it's a terrible state of affairs.
We'd all like to be wearing more jackets, spare a thought for us poor Aussies. We have to put up with this until winter rolls around again, it's horrible!!!

That's interesting. I lived in Sydney for 6 years, I used to wear jackets regularly. I'm originally from canberra, and am quite resilient when it comes to the cold. While I never froze in Sydney Town, I certainly had plenty of opportunities to wear a jacket

I think it's because I tend to run hot. Today in Melbourne it was a cool 18 degrees. Wore my goat half-belt by Al - that darn thick cotton lining and heavy hide was boiling so I had to carry it around. A drag. At 13 degrees at 6.30am today it was bearable but by lunch it was almost unwearable. It'll be great later this evening around 9pm when the sun goes down. Even at 24 degrees you kind of have to carry a jacket around in Melbourne for the cool spaces between the sunshine and the evenings. I would love to know if the 2.25oz light horse hide is easier to wear that goat hide.

Salt water is bad news for leather products. My sympathy. :D For the past three days I have been stuck wearing my Teamster in gloomy, overcast, chilly, rainy (off and on) N Texas weather.

The consolation I get in our horrid winter is wearing decent jackets and boots. There is no other reason to be happy.....too many years living in the heat for me. The cold is my enemy,
