Vintage Taubers Cafe Racer jacket in horsehide. Taubers was the last manufacturer to stop using horsehide in the US, where most had gone to steerhide beginning in the 60s Taubers kept on using horsehide right into the 70s and maybe 80s. I believe this jacket is from the late 60s or early 70s. I bought it from Terry he would know more. It’s a fairly rare and desirable and very collectible jacket mainly because the horsehide Taubers used is so exquisite. This leather remains quite supple to this day, and reminds me somewhat of shinki. Some of the nicest leather i’ve ever handled and doubly so for being so old.
This jacket is in immaculate condition for its age. The liner is almost flawless. The leather is perfect with the exception of one small crack or cut at the shoulder which has been professionally repaired from the inside. Sleeves professionally lengthened one inch by Dena at great leather. All stitching and seams are strong. All zips are original and in flawless working order. The fit and the pattern are outstanding. It took me a long time to find a Taubers in my size in this condition and i’m sure I’ll regret parting with it but Im on a bit of a minimalism kick and Im selling almost my entire collection of vintage cafe racer jackets. Also have a flawless Buco J-100 and Beck 666 up for sale in the same size, message me for more info.
No strange smells or issues to worry about, the jacket is beautiful and fits comfortable for a size 40.
